Anyone ever heard if driving w/o your hoodpad in a Gen 2 is considered bad?

Just for maybe a week or so while I do some detail work, during the wicked Texas winter driving season.

Dave, the hood pad is just for looks and sound deadning. Shouldn't be a problem unless your pulleys all go to heck and the front of your motor comes out the top of the hood and then the lack of a hood pad would be the least of your worries. BTW I had a Bobcat steak last night and it was the bomb. :)

Absolutely NO problem. In fact, the first 2.3 years of Vipers had NO hood pads.

You will discover that no hoodpad = cooler footwell, cooler underhood. You could leave it off forever, but for best LONG TERM PAINT life, raise your hood after parking a heat-soaked engine

FINALLY HOME AND PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN !!!
While were talking about hood pads .... there is the main hood pad and my driver side of the hood has one small sized one . My passenger side has none . Is this normal,or is my hood missing the small driver side hood pad ??? (at the wheelwell)

Who can paint the sneaky peat on mine ??

You can.

Not that there hasn't been plenty written on the subject, because it has, but I plan on taking a bunch of pics when I do mine and it will probably make it to the Illustrated Upgrade area.

I mean, I've gone to the extent of taking temperature measurements on the hoodpad after driving and then contacting the paint manufacturer to ensure temperature compatibility. I know where to get new wing clips cheap. I've tested various tapes for adhesion to the pad for masking.

Might even start today if I can shake this hangover.

I painted my hood pad two years ago. It was easy. Hardest part was taking the pad on/off without tearing. The sneaky pete in my avatar is the painted hoodpad logo. I bought new fasteners from my local hardware store and replaced the wing clips with large diamter round clips to keep the pad nice and secure. Can be done in a weekend. Give the engine a whole new look. Well worth it.

I don't know what a new hood pad OEM style sells for but these guys have hood pads pre-painted or customer painted: Hood Pads Looks like $325.

I should have a pic later today. Hangover almost gone. Time to get to work.

According to Chuck Tator, new pads are no longer available.

You can of course check with the small handful of Viper parts vendors as they may have stock.

I think new was like $150. That was when they were more available.
