BamBam,
Those are great numbers. If it helps at all my 97 GTS with 12k miles dynoed at 422hp / 457 tq SAE with smooth tubes and K&N's. How is the sound? Did you have to do any welding for the Edelbrock headers?

Nice numbers - my '97 dynoed at 422 rwhp and 456rwtq (both adjusted) with smooth tubes and K&N's, so I guess you are picking up about 30 hp with the exhaust mods. I believe Venom Lover had similar increases over his baseline with Borla headers and exhaust.

Nice one Bam Bam, you must be 'a proud Dad'. I hope to dyno my beloved soon...but, had loads of trouble trying to find a rolling road over here that will snake handle, most are 400 bhp limited. Have just found one (thanks Neil) so I hope to see figures as good as yours soon!

BamBam, nice numbers, very consistent with mine (see signature -- dyno numbers are after all the intake and exhaust mods, with the stock cats). I was at 425 rwhp and 467 rwft-lbs when totally stock.

It's interesting to see results from so many strong-running '97 GTS's with nothing more than intake and exhaust, from BamBam, Fikse, Kid97GTS, and jcaspar1.

All I can say is -- I am so lucky! I bought the '97 because I liked the blue/white combo. Yeah, the car felt a bit stronger than the other GTS's I drove, but I have to admit that if I had wanted a silver or black car, I'd be in a '98+ now, probably with less power.

Well, since we're having a '97 GTS party I'll throw in my dyno numbers too. All are at the rear wheels of course.

with K&N's and smoth tubes = 427 HP and 464 ft-lbs
with above and TNT cat-back = 439 HP and 483 ft-lbs
that's all for mod's so far.

Long live the 97's.....

mine is a 1996 GTS..... was there a cam change between 1996 and 1997?

everyone who hears my car, says "you put a cam in that thing?"..... it sure does sound like it..... but its the stock cam.....

as for why I wanted the 1996/1997.... it was all about he color... had to have the blue/white...

BamBam,

I'd say the differences are within expected variations from one motor to the next. It wouldn't surpise me, in fact, to see variations larger than what our small statistical sample in this thread reflects. 5% variation doesn't seem too far-fetched, and yet 5% on a car putting down 400 to the rear wheels is 20 hp. We're not seeing variations anywhere near that large.

I think Chevy guys will be lucky if GM equals the power of the Gen II motor with the C6 Vette (and as we all know, when the C6 comes out, the Viper motor will be rated at 500 bhp, and I bet that rating will be very conservative). Just between us, I'm selling my Z06 because it just doesn't do it for me. Every time I get in the Viper, I'm so much happier.

Yeah, I love the sound of my exhaust as well. I just laugh whenever I see or hear someone spouting off about how they "don't like how Vipers sound."

Fikse,
Obviously that's a question for JonB, but I believe the cam is the same in '96-'98.
