Good lord.... who knew my GTS was such a 4x4!:crazy2:

This is too low and scrapes all the time, even while driving down the highway.

This is perfect low but not always scraping.

I'll add more to the thread. No caps.

With caps you lower the car 1/2 to 3/4" I believe and that's OK with stock spring as they aren't progressive (they don't get a stiffer spring rate as the springs become comnpressed. Stock springs are made for a softer ride and should be mounted at a lower height because they're too soft.

The stock springs are designed for stock height and ride. Eibachs are designed for Eibach height and ride. My GTS has 1 1/4" between tire and rear wheelwell lip on the sapphire/silver. Just about 2.5" of chin spoiler to ground clearance at the front. Caps only is probably max lowering for stock springs.

This ... is too low

Here's a pic after raising the height so that there is 1.5" between tire and hood fender lip. This height gives 2 7/8" of ground clearance from ground to chinspoiler. Looking at this pic it can be seen that the trailer ramp is nearly flat and yet the chin spoiler is folded flat and the nose is scraping on the ramp for several feet.

Thanks man,

I'm gonna measure my height tomorrow to compare, that way I'll have an idea how close it would be to yours if I just run the Eibachs..

Thanks Rob and Ted.

So it looks like I'll be doing Eibachs...

That 97 Blue and White I posted pictures of, the guy emailed me. Apparently he did KW variant 2 coilovers. I looked those up and they cost up around $3,500-$4,000 which is definitely a lot more then I want to spend right now.

Ted, so are you saying for your Saphire GTS you "only" used Eibachs... but for the Red ACR you said it didn't have Eibachs, it just has ACR shocks and springs that were adjusted a lot lower?

Thanks again,
Anthony

See my pic above. Springs and caps and I love it. I scrape the protector under the nose sometimes but it doesn't really hurt anything. I just have to be careful, and I do that already anyway. :2tu:

Hey man, so how do your measurements with both caps and Eibachs compare to the cars listed within this thread of "BlackSnake" and Ted since they listed their measurements.

Yes Eibachs only on my Sapphire/silver GTS.

The Red 2000 ACR has Koni 'W' series stock (ACRs came with KWs 1999 - mid 2000 then they were replaced with Dynamic Suspension adjustable shocks). Then the GTS ACR was discontinued in 2002. The Gen 3s were all verts so no "Racer" models. 2006 the coupe was re-introduced so they carried over to the 2008-2010 models (no such thing as a 2007 model). American Club Racer/ACRs were again produced because serious track cars are hardtop.

Called double adjustable these shocks have threaded bodys and adjustments for the rebound, etc. Threaded bodies allow coils spring height adjustment and allen screws allow the damping and rebound adjustments. You stock Koni shocks are also adjustable. Search and find the threads describing the adjustments. Once the springs are removed collapse the shock and turn it.

The KWs or Dynamic shocks were the most expensive part of the $10K ACR option. Spoked, forged BBS lighweight wheels, smooth tubes, decals and engraved plate on console were the other differences. The ACRs could also be ordered without the airconditioning and radio.

Thank you everyone for your responeses. It seems like my best option would be to just get the Eibachs without the caps. Although I would like to have my car lowered at least by 1.25" or more.. but obviously not too low so that it's just unpractical to drive anywhere.

I looked up the springs on PartsRack and it says the springs only lower your car 1" rear, .6" Front. However, some people on here are saying that the springs lowered their car even more? Is the description for the springs for sale on PartsRack or just the description for buying new springs just a general estimate and not accurate or does it all depend on the car?

Also I'm not sure if anyone got into this, but besides the wheel well difference from being lowered, whats the actual measurements for the ground clearance after being lowered?

Will you be driving on uneven gravel roads or all city driving? Will you be loading and unloading the car onto a trailer frequently? That should all factor into your decision.

To reiterate: mine has the springs AND caps with 19/20" rims and it is NOT too low for the my weekend cruising in the city. I don't know why Ted's ACR looks so low but mine does not look that low.

Your car looks great man. That is about the exact height I am looking for. :2tu:

I'm a huge fan of Eibachs and use them on my '06 coupe. I used Eibachs on both the stock shocks (looked great) and on the Motons (550/750). I'm confident you will not be disapointed. Best of luck!

Awesome car pics on this post...
