exhaust tips

97 GTS factory exhaust tips seem to have a coating on them. Anyone have any luck removing the clear coat? It appears to be the same kind of material that you find on wheels. Thanks in advance!

They have a clear coat, best to do is buy a set of new tips in chrome with a larger diameter much better look and so many choices out there unless you are trying to keep stock, I never like those tips..

I realy prefer to keep it all stock but would like to strip that clear coat.

Did not have to strip the clear coat after all....Used a mild rubbing compound to remove scratches and polished, also painted the outside edge with Rustoleum alumium....Looks factory fresh!

I actually have a Gen II muffler, brand new from factory that was never used and the inside of the tips are painted red..
