Factory radio replacement?

I am a new 2006 owner.

looking for something to replace the factory player.

I would like something that has the following:

plays DVD's. 4" screen is OK
has NAV
has hard drive to store my music.

don't care about Bluetooth or hookup for games.

DVD is for my granddaughter to watch her movies.

I should also mention, this is a Dodge production radio if anyone is unaware, so it has OE type integration, color matching, reliablity, and user interface type. Personally, I feel this is worth its weight in gold, as I have never been overly impressed with aftermarket units.

very, very little on the inner structure, which is non-replaceable. The facepate does need to be modified, but you can always replace this panel, not a high cost item. We would supply a Jig to modify the inner structure properly- but it is minimal. From a couple feet away, you cannot tell it was modified. This is not a true double DIN, so it requires far fewer internal dash mods than they do.

If you want to keep it simple, just do a single din flip out head unit like this one:

It has navi built in, plays DVD, and while it doesn't have a built in hard drive, you can hook up a thumb drive with all the music you want on it. It can be installed in about a hour and doesn't require any modification to the dash.

It has navi built in, plays DVD, and while it doesn't have a built in hard drive, you can hook up a thumb drive with all the music you want on it. It can be installed in about a hour and doesn't require any modification to the dash.

Yeah, that would def be easier and cheaper.
Unfortunately most Viper owners, like myself, insist on hard and expensive - LOL.
But really, I tried the flip-out on another Viper, and as I remember it, the screen blocked the a/c registers.

TheOldViperMan, I thought of that too, but wanted to let him know a simple install option. Some people don't mind modifying things to make it fit (myself included), but others want a simple install that can be returned back to stock if needed.

Dads Toy, one other thing I forgot to mention. If you want to go with the double din size opening like the green car pictured above (my recommendation as well), a spare center console piece can be had for ~$100. So you can modify an extra piece and have the original put away with no modifications on it.

Finally, one last option to save some $$$. Do you have a smart phone with built in navigation? If so, all you need is head unit that does Bluetooth streaming. The stereo will tell you the directions through the speakers in the car from your phone. I do this with my iPhone all the time. There isn't a map to see, but it does tell me when and where to turn.

You have several options to pick. If you decide to have it installed for you, please don't let them charge you a arm and a leg. Putting a stereo in a viper is probably one of the easiest installs I have ever done.

Personally I had done a crazy system in a c5 corvette(flame suit on) with a top line alpine dd nav, I had the bezel modified by a pro and would never do it again. It never fit 100% and bugged me everytime I saw it. I think the flip out or there are a few flip downs!

I did do several searches and found some options. mainly wanted to know what you guys did.

I did not see an audio section so that is why I posted here.

I had a nice 7" screen in my C6 with all the options. and had a nice factory unit in my 11 challenger.

only need a few of the options that they had.

don't want to stick a nav unit to the windshield.

Exactly. This is one of the reasons we developed the MyGig conversion. It requires ZERO cutting of the metal structure, and only about 1/16" of the plastic structure edge. With a Jig, you cannot tell it was ever modified.

The hardware cost ranges from 500-2500, depending on New, Used, RER, RHR, and with or without UConnect Auto-Dimming Mirror Upgrade. We sell both new and used MyGigs, and can ensure it is the correct type and bus version.

Basically, pricing is roughly:

RER= MyGig Version 1, lacks Bluetooth Audio, but still has BlueTooth Phone.

I did the double din conversion too. Had to cut out the same stuff but in reality- if you get a stock radio bezel, the stock unit can pop right in. All the fastening spots for the stock radio still remain untouched. Cant even see what was cut out, nor do I think it would affect car value if a buyer knew about it.
