Well, it's time to start thinking about getting rid of my beloved coupe. I find that I just don't drive it and it shouldn't just be sitting all lonely in the garage. She deserves a better home, with someone who can spend time with her.

What is a fair trade-in if I start speaking to dealers? It has 9k miles and is all stock.

I think that I would get more use out of something that I can comfortably drive more regularly (I have another daily driver, but would still like something that I can take to the office more often, run errands in, etc.), so I'll be speaking to Nissan dealers about a GTR, and Chevy dealers about a ZR1 (which seems similar to the Viper, but I think I would drive it more often - I had a C5 vette as a DD long ago and it actually wasn't too bad).

If anyone has made a switch to or from those cars, I'd also like to hear about your experiences re: more utility from those vehicles.

Thanks in advance.

Scott.

Vette or GTR would make a better daily driver for sure... Not sure what kind of trade in you will get, but it won't be something you will be happy with.

I would imagine $40k - $45k trade in...maybe????

I would say $36k - $41k:(

You're really going to have to sell it privately to get any money out of it. It's a desirable color combo with low miles...5 spokes etc...you could probably get 50K privately

You are probably right about high $30's / low $40's... you know how the dealerships do.

They are either going to make their money on your trade in and give you a good deal on the new car, or give you a good trade in and you buy close to MSRP (depending on the vehicle).

Who am I kidding, the dealership will **** you over and make as much money as they can...:lmao:

I agree with AbsolutHank. I use to work for Sunnyvale Acura and Capitol Honda. You probably will get offered that from a dealer, since they have to stock it and turn around and sell it for a profit. Don't use them unless you are just unable to sell it yourself. Selling it private party will probably yield you high 40's in my opinion like 47-49k.

Should be an easy sale at 50K...The coupes are more rare and therefore more desirable...Youve got something special..Dont for=get that and hold out for 50K..

I just got offerred 41K on my 2003 srt10 vert with 35K miles...Buyers are out their...And your car uis easily worth 10K more than mine based on the year milage and coupe rarity

Twister, you are in a different location. Vipers are limited in Hawaii. Much easier to get on the mainland. 50k to the right person may be doable.. but it will be hard or waiting a long time...

twisters car is worth more being from hawaii. there cant be 4-5 on his island total.

i agree with the above, its in the 40-42k range or less from a dealer. the dealer has to be able to sell it for a profit.

Don't be fooled about the dealer making money on the trade, their ultimate objective is to sell you a new car and in alot of cases don't emphasize making money on the trade, we break even all the time on trades which is okay as long as we move a piece of inventory. Shop the car you want in your DD and don't bring the trade in up until you've made your best deal, this way you know they are not over inflating the new car price to offset a high trade in value. I don't know your sales tax rate but don't forget you will get a large tax break, 40k trade equals $2800 tax savings @ 7%. Good luck and p.s., check out Porsche!!

Yea, I agree! Also check out a 996 Turbo Porsh. You can pick one up for 40k and make 700hp with just bolt ons!:headbang:

Their was a 2006 at a local dealer and they had a asking price of
$54000. I believe it had about 10K miles. It was a convertible.

I picked up my 06 Black Coupe (no stripes) at a dealer and got it for 48k out the door. It had 13k on it and had some exhaust mods. FYI. I have no idea what they paid for it but they took my offer and ran with it.

Thanks guys for the great responses. I'll list it today privately and try to get the $50k. I'm in no hurry to sell and I love the car, so I can hold out a bit. This car gets compliments everywhere we go, the cameras come out, people pose next to it, etc.... people always say "best Viper ever", or something similar (and I cruise regularly with Ferrari's and Lambo's and no joke, people come over to the Viper first... In So. Fla, Viper's are actually more rare!!!). So, I love it and this is a really hard thing to do.

I will look at Porsche again, but not the 996 (I had one). The 997tt's are going cheap these days also.

If you are wanting a fun daily driver, I'd highly recommend you go test drive a Cadillac CTS-V or the new CTS-V coupe. I'd rank them up there in fun-factor with a stock 2006 Viper as well as a Z06. They run 11.9-12.0 stock, right on par with a Pre-2008 Viper. I love my CTS-V.

Just look at Ebay and also "completed sections" and you see a lot of nice Vipers under 50 and no takers....supply and demand PLUS this economy has everyone putting "extra money" under their mattress and if you are a business owner, you need your cash for what is coming !! Just the Facts !!

Thanks. They are HRE Monoblok P41 wheels, 20" with brushed and tinted clearcoat. I can help your buddy get a set :)

LOL. Ebay bidders are timewasters, with no funds. It, in NO way dictates market conditions.

I know the CTS-V is a great car, but i dont know how you compare a ZO6, and Viper with it. Toatally different rides to me and no comparison in thrill factor. JMOP as i pass these things all day long at the track. And no insults given just a opinion.:)

I say go with the GTR. Ive had 6 vipers including a couple SC beasts. The GTR should fit your bill well. And to be honest, in the real world will be faster than most any viper up to about 100 mph. Ive got $5k of mods on my 2010 GTR and it runs 10.80s at 130 mph religiously. Plus its easy as pie to drive, has back seats and a trunk about as big as a camry. All the creature comforts and still gets a boatload of looks.

The viper feels faster but isnt. It growls at you, shakes, is deafening, throws the rear around and is all around a blast to drive. Dont get me wrong. But I would put my GTR up against a Paxton viper all day long off the line to about 100 where traction counts. From a highway roll....different story perhaps. But Im not 21 anymore and dont bust down the highway at 150 mph anymore.

Just my .02c.

Yes, but isn't that with delivery miles only on your VOI9? I got offered $40k trade in for my 2008.

Anyone wanna buy my 08 Viper for $50,000???

:rolaugh::rolaugh::rolaugh:

Wow thats in sane. That car had to be close to 90k new i would think. Good time for everybody to hold on to what they have. This economy *****, and selling or trading a car is like bending over big time.:omg:

I'm curious... why do you think you'll drive a ZR1 more than the Viper? And why do some of the posts above reference the ZR1 as a better DD than a Viper? I owned a C6 Z51 Vette for 3 years and bought a 2006 SRT10 Roadster 3 months ago. I'm DD-ing my Viper, just like I DD'd the Vette before I sold it and have already put almost 5,000 miles on the Viper since July. I see no difference in drive-ability other than the Viper gets a little more attention and isn't as good on gas. But a ZR1 will get plenty of attention also. I mean obviously the Viper is AWESOME in every sense of the word but I just don't get why a ZR1 would be a better daily driver and why you think you'll get more use out of it than your Viper. My guess is if you don't drive the Viper, you won't drive the ZR1 either.
