i just got the gripper shift knobs back from the platers and installed one on our red srt10. the finish is a "pearl bright" chrome process done by our chrome platers. it is the same finish as the shifter bezel and factory knob. as you can see the knob needed to be about 1 1/2 inches longer than the gen 1 and gen 2 knobs. this is because it seems that dodge may have lowered the tranny in the srt10 for better handling.

i have them in red or grey inserts but the only finish for the shaft and other knobs coming soon is gonna be the pearl bright.

they are in stock now and cost 75.00. the website will be up in a few weeks. also the first strike race knobs should be ready in about a week also they will be 85.00.

p.s. we also include an allen wrench to remove the shifter bezel during the install to keep it from getting scratched

That is cool George. I am about to buy my next RT/10 so I will be in your shop soon for some accessories. Do you mind if I stop by and take a look at the new SRT? Thanks.

The shifter looks great but will the shiny surface show hand prints? Do you expect a satin finish in the future?
Also, have you been able to do wheel center caps for the Startech wheels with a Viper logo? Any plans?

no those were actually for gen 1 and gen 2 cars only. they are too short for the srt10.

the shiny service is very minimal and the insert on top is actually cloissonne and looks awesome. it actually has the scales just like the hood badges.

George;

I am a customer of Jon B's and I live in Iowa. I placed an order for the new "Fangs" knob with John back around VOI.

John called to let me know that you were tweaking the height to avoid knuckle dragging and that I would be getting the revised SRT version. I would be the first customer to get the new shifter! Needless to say, I am excited to get it. Have you shipped it yet?

Question: Does the "short" height of your knob make the shifting effort a lot harder? (although more quick and precise). I am curious as to how you engineer it to be easy as factory shift effort (is it?) Are there other parts that you "can't see" that somehow compensate for the loss of leverage? How do you accomplish this? I am just curious.

My SRT has arrived George, and I have a product suggestion or two for you.

1. Brushed "sill covers" that cover the top part of the sill you see when you open either door. These covers would not only be decorative; could they somehow be made to dissapate heat from the sills as well? I understand completely that there is a clearance issue when closing the door, so the metal "cap" would have to be thin. Any "Space Age" insulation stuff like "Inconel" shield that might be effective for this purpose? Just a thought, as the door sill BOLDLY warns of the heat there and possibility of burnt legs!

2. The new SRT exterior push-down "door handles" would benefit from some protective covering to avoid fingernail scratches! 3M has their clear film that some of us buy to protect our headlamps and it doesn't need adhesive if I am correct. I think some "brushed" stainless steel cut to exact size could be really nice and functional. The "Brushed" texture could match the interior brushed metal handles, shift boot circle thing, etc. With experimentation with the degree of "Brushing" of the stainless (or Aluminum?) these could compliment/blend with the interior and not stick out like a "sore thumb" when admiring the SRT from the outside.

3. Obviously, the heat/AC knobs would be easy for you. Are you considering doing those?

4. The "Ash-tray/blasphemous Cup-holder" could look VERY COOL with a machined/brushed miniature "GTS" style "Gas cap" hinged top, and a metal "ash-tray" cup under the lid! Imagine, pushing the gas-cap release button on this, and the "spring loaded", "fangs logo" cap pops up to reveal the ash-tray (coin holder, whatever you want) cup! THIS could be pretty snazzy as a fun add-on that matches the interior metal.

Please let me know if my MGW shift-knob is coming soon, and what you like or don't like about my suggestions?

Thanks George,

Jim Wallace

George - I was surprised to read your post. I could swear I asked if the knob would fit my ordered SRT-10. I thought the answer was yes.

The knob is still unused. Can I trade it in on one for my SRT?

JIM,

the knob is shorter and does take some more effort to shift as there is no magic way to avoid it BUT the current setup is VERY sloppy and it still is easy as pie to shift. i have no problem getting into reverse and shifting is qui5te effortless even with a lower knob.

and....

yes we have your order on file and it will ship monday. we are looking into ALL of the ideas you posted as well.

i would have to see how they fit in the wheels. we have made center caps for the purner wheels. i am sure it is something we can do

also i believe apex makes center caps already. you may want to check with them.

Silver SRT-10 # 343 came home with me last friday.
The shifter was way too tall (the 96 GTS had George's short shifter) and I had to lift my arm off of the console to shift.

Glad to see there are shifters available soon and the side sill suggestion is right on!~ Do it George!

Oh- one more thing. I think I need an "eyebrow" over the temp gauge. Since I brought the car home in the dark, and I'm pretty tall, I got an annoying reflection in the windshield from the temp gauge. I'm thinking of something with the brushed polish like they have for the PT Cruiser gauges. Can you do something like that George?
