Is the lip of the wheel where the tire meets also chromed? The reason I ask is...

A few years ago I sent off my Gen. II wheels to get them chromed by Wheels America. They weren't. I enlisted the help of a local shop to fine a place that could do it, and they said every place they found chromed the entire wheel. I asked what was wrong with that. They said if they chrome the entire wheel (not just the face) that the chrome will start peeling off immediately where the tire meets the metal.

That said, you guys with chrome wheels; is the whole thing chromed or just the face? If the whole thing is chromed, is the finish coming off? I'll have a set of 18" OEM rims on the way next week and I'm debating on having them do a detour on the way here. TIA!

Explaining Viper things to you
On my iForged you can see the entire outer barrel is chromed going back to the silicone seal bead at the center of the wheel. Safe to say that they didn't stop the chrome at the tire bead contact patch and then pick it back up again to finish the part you can't see that is covered by the tire.

Hope that helps.

Well, Daves were new. If you had sent off a set, they should chrome the whole rim. They will only polish the out face to a high shine, but leave the rest in a rough chrome look. Mine were done by Calchrome.

I went to CalChrome's site last night before retiring and they have this down to a science. At $99/wheel (plus shipping, mounting and dismounting) you can't beat it. I think I'm gonna do that. Thanks for the input!

You're on probation, but teetering. Insisting they are "still" new is against DD philosophy. Nothing should be "still" new.
