Hi
I looking at a 93 RT10 Viper and a 97 Gts. I like them both.
But Iam a performance guy, and is a gen 2 engine a better engine than gen 1?

Is it more performance parts for gen 2 engine?

Regards

From a bolt-on standpoint, I don't believe there is much difference between gen 1 and 2. By that I mean that all the stuff that bolts to one bolts to the other. The gen 2 has better flowing factory heads to my knowledge, which is where most of the 50 extra horsepower came from. Always easier to start with more, but if you're planning to totally replace heads or have them ported to begin with I don't know that there is a huge difference in the base components between blocks.

The Gen2 has more power/torque, but youll need to define
your need for "performance" a little better. The Gen1s were
a much more raw car to push to the edge, which is a HUGE
benefit to purist drivers, but the the GTS is a more stable and
versital racecar thats better suited for a greater range of
sporting events.

I suppose it's also worth noting that the gen 2 PCM is much easier to tune than a gen 1. If you're going with a full custom solution though that's a wash.

It would take a half hour to list all the upgrades the gen 2 has over the gen 1, but the major stuff is a revised block and cooling, heads, cam, pistons, all forged guts up to 1999. If you are going build a motor, gen 2 is the way to go, gen1 are good don't get me wrong, I had one made lots of power, but apples to apples gen 2 is better. Also the gen 2 motor is 80 pounds lighter

Is it more performance parts for gen 2 engine? GEN2 is a better platform.

There are MANY reasons to go with a 97+ over 92-96, don't forget the crappy interiors of the Gen I's. 98-99 even better on all fronts.
