I was hoping to get some opinions from you guys. I read alot about the Roe and Paxton Superchargers, but what upgrades are worth it for a GEN 1 other than a charger/NOS? Obviously other than exhaust, headers, K&N....What type of HP/TQ increases have some of you guys gotten with what mods? I am really debating the Supercharger, but curious what i can do naturally aspirated with out the Juice or S/C...Thanks so much in advance! :2tu:

Best HP bang for the buck--Paint your car red for added HP. Optional yellow wheels increase torque ;)

How much added HP are you looking for? That would decide what route would be the best to take

Interested in this as well. Anyone do a 708 cam swap in a GEN 1 with before/after dyno?

Hey Chad, the honest answer is, I don't know...at least 100 HP though...curious about upgrading heads/cam/intake what any or all of those mods would do and if so what would the results/cost be......

If you're just looking for 100RWHP, NOS would be the cheapest alternative. BUT (there's always a but) personally, I'd put a Roe on it to have the constant power and no worrying with empty bottles or anything. I'll let the experts weigh in on what the heads/cam/intake mods would add

Yea, the NOS bottle has never been an exciting idea to me...I want something that is always there when you hit the gas no surprises. I just really want to know what my options are out there for a GEN 1....Polished and Ported Head upgrade? Any one do this?

I've done it! And to shed light or my opinion on NOS(NX Express)I had that too. It was OK but having power on tap at all times is where it's at. Besides I had a couple of violent coughs running NOS and I didn't care for that. My bottle was always empty too :curse: Running Nos is for the most part a PIA. My .02

Heres my list:

I did the GenII(ized) my GenI if you want to call it that. I'm running the 708cam. Degreed in @119 Centerline and I'm running HS 1.7:1 RR's. I have accufabs 65mm TB's. Info: GenI's TB's choke down to 56mm and GenII TB's are 62mm. I'm running GenII(red tops) injectors. Heads are ported and milled .060(10.5:1) Intake match ported (intake runners modded and it had to be modified for 65mm TB's)Borla Headers and Randomtech 3" catback. I just recently removed cats(Loud!) and what does all that matter

480/510 @ the rear wheels was my last dyno! If you do the 15% drivetrain loss that equals to the motor putting out 550HP. It was rated 415hp Stock at the flywheel. Mine is a 96. I don't think the dyno's are that nice to NA motors so it won't impress most for the dyno queens out there. A NA motor (which is nothing but a pump) sitting still on a Dyno going 149mph isn't moving the same amount of air now is it. What really matters is what it runs at the track.

My best ET so far is 11.47 @124 and that's with 1.9 60' times. I know it has more in it. I just recently took the cats off and went to a 1/8th mile track a couple of weeks ago and ripped off a 7.20 @ 98mph. That's still running the stock 3:08 gears.

Anyway for the most part it's a whole Hell of a lot more fun to drive! It's dependable and it's always on tap! I don't have to fill a bottle and or remember to have it open. My car is actually faster now than when it was sprayed(150 shot). It ran 11.9's sprayed with NOS on a otherwise stock motor. I hope that helps you decide.

Thank you for the VERY informative information Viperrt96. I really appreciate it. Those numbers are very impressive to me. My main question would be what did it cost for the TB, head work, and intake work? I have the exhaust setup already..... Thanks again! :headbang:

No problem.

Accufabs 65mm TB's run around $550 to $600 new. If you are looking for a cheaper alternative and it works just as well,I do modify GenI TB's to 62mm. Do a search for my post or look in my photo gallery. That's basically turning your GenI TB's into a GenII TB. You can buy GenII TB's on Ebay(used) and they will bolt directly on but the throttle link bar will not work since your alternator sits between the TB's. The vacuum lines are different as well.

As far as the head/intake work I paid only $1000 for my work. That was cheap but keep in mind I'm sort of in the business (machine shop) and I have contacts. The guy that did my head/intake had never done a Viper before but is a very reputable(especially Mopar) engine builder around here and had worked for Indy cylinder head. His own personal race car has set several records around here. He looked at mine and said "There's nothing special about these". So I let him do mine. No problems and I'm totaly satisfied with how my car turned out. The intake work was the best. I had the luxury of my motor out and he could bolt everything together and he match ported that way. That's really the only way you can do it and do it right. You won't believe how off your intake can be from the factory.
There are plenty of guys on this site that can give you recomendations. That will depend on what you are willing to spend. I'm guessing somewhere around $2000 + - should net you what you are looking for.

No. I thought about it but I don't have anyone around here that can do that. I ran mine on the Dyno primarily to get my AF readings. Everything was great so I left it alone. It probably could be tweeked in.

I have also been there done that with Nitrous. While it was fun, it was also a PIA as well. I used mine quite a bit and ran out of the go-go juice quite a bit as well! No sense putting it in if you aint gonna use it. Decided to go with a Paxton blower and it puts a smile on my face every time I mash the gas because I am not worrying if I am going to run out of Nitrous. I am not worrying if my car is going to hiccup. Instant on and ALWAYS on.

Again thank you for the very informative information. This sounds like the route I want to go at least for now, and i can make a decision after it's done if it has yielded results that will make me happy. Thanks.
