This is the second Gen 2 I have owned and both give be a back-ache in the middle area of my back. I compared the pictures of my Gen 1 seats with pictures of my Gen 2. They are similar, but the Gen 2 stick out more in the lower middle. I have used all my weight to push in the "lumbar" support to get it as flat as possible, but there is still a lump.

The point is, I could drive my Gen 1 for hours and it was very comfortable on my back. I drive my Gen 2 for 15 minutes and I have a back ache. I would love to have Gen 1 seats or change the seats to an aftermarket that fits and is comfortable.

So, does anyone have any thoughts on the matter? Can Gen 1 seats fit in a Gen 2 (I don't car if they are Grey as I will put Wet Okole seat covers on them anyway), or are there aftermarket seats that would work? Thanks. :)

The seats will fit...even Gen. III seats can make it in.

If you're putting Gen. I seats in a Gen. II you'll have to do something about the seatbelt guide in the center of the car; that should be it. They're just 4 bolts under the seat cushion. Don't know if you'll have to modify the mounting points at all, but I wouldn't think you would. Even if you do it's 10 minutes and a titanium drill bit and you're there :D

What are "seat belt guides in the center of the car?"

My Gen 1 was built for the Canadian market. In 1994 the Canadian requirement was frame-mounted belts so the driver left lap was on the floor, the driver right lap was on the floor and the driver right shoulder rolled up in the center console. I think this is all standard air-bag car setup, but without the airbag. Meanwhile the US required automatic restraints and the driver right was on the floor, but driver left and driver left shoulder was inside the door.

All that trivia aside, since I have what I thought were all the parts for both setups (the car had to be converted to US so I could import it) I didn't see anything that looks like a guide and don't see where you need one (since I re-installed the floor mounted Canadian versions.)

Just curious.

If the Gen 1 holes in the seat bottom don't exactly line up with the Gen 2 seat tracks, the second look-see is whether the Gen 1 seat track feet line up with the pre-drilled and tapped holes in the Gen 2 floor.
