Why is it taking so long for Dodge to release the Gen 5 Vipers ?
They can at least put out some information or a picture.

Current Viper owners who are also VCA members will have first dibs. After that group, the rest can order. So I recommend that you join the VCA since you do own a Viper. There are quite a few VCA members and some of them will probably buy more than one 2013 Viper. The Gen V Viper will be spectacular in all respects. Don't ask me why I think so. I can't tell you. Sorry.

You can't show a picture of a car that's not done yet. April is months away, the final version is still being finalized. Once shown in April, they're stuck with that "look". I bet there will be tweeks on the final looks and specs up the the week before the April show.

IF this is the case, they are certainly taking this down to the wire. With an april unveil date, I would assume that the car is already in it's final stages...

Is it for sure/all most that the new Gen.5 will be at the April New York Auto show ? If so,I will make the reservation to go see the new Snake.

Knowing that some will see it sooner than others, we wanted everybody to know one important part of Ralph's column this time around: Ralph has kindly informed the Viper Nation that the debut of the next generation Viper will be at the New York Auto Show held this April. The Viper Club is very excited to play a part in this and looks forward to seeing many of you in New York City this spring!

Many of us here in the South Florida VCA club recently had the opportunity to meet Ralph over a car show/lunch and the VCA party yesterday.....from all indications SRT is listening and should have a nice product out.

The fact that there have been no test mule spy shots would seem to indicate (to me) that the basic chassis, frame, and driveline will not change significantly from the Gen4.

I'm surprised we haven't seen any leaked photos. I am going to try and get out to NY for the unveiling.

One of them was at the plant on July 1, 2010. She and her husband own 46 Vipers. In our local club, there are at least three people who have more than three and one of those people has six. I predict that the new Viper is going to sell out very fast. It is going to be a class dominator but, at the same time, appeal to far more people. Look what happened to the new SRT8 Jeep. It sold very fast. The new Viper will sell even faster. I am usually very conservative about this type of prediction but this time I think such a prediction is a no brainer. Happy New Year!!

The only thing I don't agree with in what you said was that it will sell OUT quickly. You are assuming it will have the same level of production at only 500 to maybe 2000 cars per year. I do believe SRT will be looking at much higher production than that for this new GEN. I do feel it will sell real well and be a success, but I do not believe they will sell out as in all production sitting in someone's driveway quickly or out as in all cars sold before the first week isn up ala most exotic specialty models.

It would be nice to see a few teaser pics and they do not have to be of the entire car, but they could be of a partial seat or a certain angle just catching a small part of the car, anything. It is better to have something a few people could go on. Being less than 4 months out, I doubt anyone else is going to rush to slap on an exact part just like that in 3 months to make a New York show unveil. This is a production version car they are unveiling, not a prototype as I understand it. SRT could be releasing a few details to the VCA over the next 13 weeks or so. It is not like you are going to see a V10 8+L in ANY other car. You are not going to see Multi-Air in any other car, etc., etc. There are a few details that could be "leaked" to get people warmed up on what is coming.

If anything it gets the internet world talking and that spreads to interest whe the car is released. I commend SRT for keeping everything under wraps as if it is great, it is very hard to do. However we are getting to the point where it is actually counter productive to keep the shield on each and every small detail for the new car. I mean if Dodge releases that the new GEN V is on the same frame, that helps a ton of us to help visual and understand what we might be getting, it does not help out a single manufacturer out there to compete or steal ideas. Just saying that you have a frothing pack of wolfs waiting for anything of detail to help them understand if they even want to be in a position to buy a new GEN.

SRT, you can release some details on the car and not infringe on competition. Get some dialogue going as to what the car will keep as a carry over. That will let everyone and their imaginations run wild. Publicity is very good for interest but right now there are just obscure blurbs here and there. I just don't feel it is enough interest at the moment. Kind of like The Ring Record. Not many outside of our sub-culture even know it was done.

I believe Dodge learned their lesson well in 2004 when the bean counters ( at Daimler , by the way ) won the battle and overproduced the car. With SRT now in charge I have confidence they understand limited markets and the value of exclusivity and rarity.

I agree... and great point about the Ring. Case in point, my new Motor Trend references the LFA's 7:14 ring time in a recent piece about the world's best drivers cars. I'd really like to see a few teaser pics or a few blurbs of detail. I expect we should see this very soon, but at this point even the minor details that have been conveyed are largely confined to the Viper community. I still get a good deal of questions from the everyday Joe about the Viper being out of production. These conversations usually go as follows:

Joe - So they don't make Vipers anymore huh?
Me - Yes, they ceased production to retool for a new 2013 model.

Joe - Really, they're gonna make a new one?
Me - Yep.

Joe - Wow. What's that gonna be like?
Me - Well... more cubes, traction control, and it's going to look like a naked chick on a beach.

Joe - Ok. But seriously, what's it gonna be like?

Production will be limited. How do I know? It has been announced that the car will be made at CAAP and CAAP's production volume is limited. The Gen V will require more hands on attention to detail not less. I don't think volume will, in any production scenario, exceed 1500 units and probably in the first year run, which will start late in 2012, considerably less. As far as seeing the car, April is just around the corner and its custom and usage for teasers to be generated before then. Quite a bit of information about the car has been released on this forum. You just have to read between the lines of some of the comments including those by the SRT engineers. For instance, we know it will have more than 650 HP. ( Do you really think they would allow it to have less than the new Mustang? No way in hell that is going to happen. VCA loyalists would storm CAAP. LOL.)) We know the seat will allow a taller driver ( suggesting far more ability to adjust the seat), we know that it will have a suspension that allows the driver to change its settings from the cabin ( photo of adjusting knob on center console released months ago). We know that it will have nannytech ( Mandatory for all 2012 vehicles). Based on the upgraded interiors and sound systems across the SRT line, we know that it will have a far better interior and sound system. And with Ralph as the design guru, we know that its design will be true to the Viper soul. Ralph gets it.


The observant are rewarded with information. It just takes a little analysis.

All the pieces we have taken away, but are yet to be solidified. Point is, I can only offer opinions and theories to the inquisitive. I'll just be glad to get my hands on cold hard facts and see the final product. I'm sure the buzz will be considerable near to launch, but as they say - waiting is the hardest part.

Agreed you can read through the lines Bob to get an idea, but there is nothing in fact on any of it. They are testing active suspension yes but that does not mean it will make the cut on any Viper. They are just testing it. You are also assuming the car is still massively hand built. Retooling CAAP can mean a lot of things including automation. Basically we know they are producing a new Viper, it must have ESC and ETC. It will have Pirelli Tires and Shell Oil. Beyond that we know absolutely nothing and that is my point. Beyond the VCA there is absolutley NO buzz and that is not a good thing. There needs to be something of a stir otherwise it is like every other extic out there that no one knows about.

I think one safe assumption we could make is that the car will be hand built. In the press release that just came out recently they mentioned that all the previous CAAP employees were given first dibs on their old jobs. I can't imagine they would hire back the same amount of people if they were gonna automate the factory. Now this is not to say that automation will not be introduced but I think it's safe to say it will be largely hand built.

Everything I said in my post above is not speculation. It is fact based on analysis. There is a difference. There are bits and pieces of data on this Forum and on the net elsewhere proving each point. Read between my lines. LOL.

I agree. The design is done. It's too late for anyone to copy and implement it in any competitors design.
They should throw a few bones out to car magazines with some spy shots of the tail lights or some little design cue.

Perhaps you should observe all the information. The Viper will have less than the Mustang regardless of the rumors. More elitist garbage from Viper owners that gives all Viper owners a bad name. The Mustang is a car that you can actually buy.....not just talk about. Viper with 800 hp? No. But everyone on here refuses to accept fact.

All in a package that is made to order and in "limited production", whatever that means. As far as "VCA loyalists", I don't know what that means either. Most of the clubs can't even get together for a drive let alone drop 6 figures on a car because one is "loyal".

I have heard lots of talk about "buy the last Viper" and "sellout of the new Viper" over the last two years. This is just a shill over the last couple of years. Most of us want to wait to actually see the production car to make up our minds, not see a mock-up or "trust us" because we know the "inside scoop".

Frankly, the economy is bad. Selling 100k cars is hard. For model year 10, the ZR1 sold approximately 1500 units and the Corvette has a much larger following than the Viper.

As I posted in another thread, I think the American economy has improved enough to have the Gen V Viper sell out for the first couple years. Ralph Gilles and the SRT team will give us the most hp and most car that they can stuff within the $100k price range that they can legally put on the road just like every generation before. The fact that it will be a throwback in styling to the Gen II only will add fuel to the fire. Those qualified buyers in the middle class that hesitated to buy a Gen IV when it came out in the heat of the recession a few years ago will be in a much better buying position with super low interest rates. If Obama gets re-elected,even the poor will be able to afford Vipers with a larger tax refund or the 1% will have to buy 2 Vipers and give 1 to a poor family. Most car buyers are not blindly brand loyal and just want the fastest car they can get for the money or the hottest new ride and with the 2010 ACR still setting Nurburgring records, the Gen V can only be expected to be a roadcourse tyrant.
IMHO, serious buyers should not hesitate to pull the trigger especially if they want a specific color or option.:drive:

Um....... Two test mules in the desert testing cooling of the new front end design for one session does not equal "plenty of mule shots". I believe that if they were making significant changes to the chassis, frame, or drivetrain you would see a number of mules (or even those same two mules in various driving conditions) out there getting some real world driving experience.


Um...google 2013 dodge or SRT viper and click on images. Plenty of mule shots out there.

I believe that if they were making significant changes to the chassis, frame, or drivetrain you would see a number of mules (or even those same two mules in various driving conditions) out there getting some real world driving experience.

There is actually by my count at least five mules that I've seen pictures of. Three mules with the new front end on them. Two with standard GEN IV body work but definately GEN V underpinnings. Theres probably close to 50 pics of the mules in some fashion out there.
