Gen I glove box lock : alternative ?

Been searching the forums but couldn't find an answer. Guess that over all those years somebody must have come up with an alternative to the crappy glove box lock...

Something with the lock mechanism. Seems to get back into 'closed' position when it's opened (the metal pin at the back of the lock), and then when I try to close the [******] glove box it won't.
As a result I need to manually open the lock (pull the metal pin back) and only then I can close it.
Kind of embarrassing for a car like this...
Only happens in 50% of the cases though.

I've experienced the same problem Yves. I just got used to not using it. If anyone has a better option, I would like to see it.

I had exactly the same problem. I repaired mine by taking it apart and using a jeweler file to file down the latch in a way that allows it to open more freely.

The latch can be totally disassembled by punching out the roll pin that holds it together. Be aware that it can be challenging to reassemble if you lack the dexterity of a surgeon.

Unfortunately this does not solve the issue with the latch being inadvertently closed when placing things in the glove box or getting them out. It merely allows you to press the latch and have the mechanism automatically open, as it should.

Make sure the hings inside the box is adjusted to properly close the latch. Try loosening the bolts and move it right, left, front or back a little.

You could take it apart and oil the heck out of it but I don't understand what is closing the latch when you have it open. It shuold only close when it is pressed.

You could go to viperwrecks.com and have them ship a replacement and try it out for the heck of it.
