Target date I heard at VOI was march 2012, coupes will be first followed by roadsters and ACR's... hey that's just in time for my birthday at the end of that month :D!

The engineers were asking people's thoughts about a paddle shifter option. That might be a Fiat thing.

Please do - 'more Fiat' seems mysterious... does that mean lighter weight? Smaller than at VOI or redesigned engine despite what we've been told?

The cool thing is that, (at least) IT WILL BE A VIPER!!!!!!! :2tu:

No, I think Dan is saying that it will be a FIPER! :omg:

I mean no disrespect to anyone here, especially Jon, but anyone who does not enjoy driving an open roadster is a wuss.
The mountain passes through the Alps down to the Mediterranean Sea have given me the chance to enjoy snowfall and rain at 8000 ' above sea level. Brisk and refreshing. :D
The weather makes a wonderfull counterpoint to the sun and 90 degree temperatures in Italy and the French Riviera. Did I mention the 200 tunnels we are forced to drive through on the coastal road to Monaco? A RT/10 in a tunnel at high speed or lower gear is an amazing experience. Ask Markus.

Notice you said roadster and not convertable ;) DAMN YEAH it would be awesome if they brought back the roadster with a sportsbar like the gen 1/2 as an option in addition to the convertable and coupe :headbang::2tu::headbang:!

What day? Mine is the 31st late in the evening... my dad always keeps joking that he said to my mother "better kick him out TODAY or he will have to go through life being called an April fool's joke" :smirk:

Dodge listened to the whimps who whined about how the roadster top was too difficult to put on, but that sportbar gave it a real roadster look.

With the exception of those old European sports cars I've never been a big fan of convertibles, they look like there's something missing.

So why did they axe the roadster completely and not just make it an option? Why not give the people complaining about a lack of options something to drool over AND give the "whimps" what they want? It's not like it is all that difficult production and assembly wise :dunno: Hell they built the ACR-X on the same line as the rest, rollcage install and all!
Dodge is already doing one hell of a good job with the Gen 5, and when it hits production in 2012 we will be celebrating 20 years of Viper... did anyone realise that I did the impression nobody did!! We will be celebrating Viper's TWENTIETH birthday at VOI 12 and when gen 5 enters production in that year the original roadster appearance is no longer there!

I say Dodge should bring it back, if not to increase variety make it happen to mark this important occasion!

I will say that from the back directly on, with the mocked up car we saw at VOI11, you could definitely see where it was/is designed for a roadster. The visual effect (and I sat there and studied it as the car as not spinning when we got in the room first), of that back window from looking directly on from the back, it almost looks like you are looking at a roadster. I would be surprised if it comes out as a true convertible and not a roadster. Just sayin'!

I don't believe they build the ACR-X on the same line. I believe they build the ACR and then send it elsewhere to have it "Xified".

I also don't think a dual roadster/convertible option would be that easy in both styling and function, the roadster needs a place to store a top.

No disrespect but you're a wuss? :)

I would never buy an open top Viper. I track mine, and it would make it flex more, and more dangerous in roll overs. I have a different car that is open, and it's not as high performance.

I always thought the main reason for purchasing a convertible was to have more head room.
