Hi,
Many of you have responded with helpful info on my purchase of the above Viper at an auto auction. Well today I completed the transaction, but couldn't take it home till tomorrow. Hopefully I won't be sorry. I was advised by many members on what to look for but they wouldn't even let me open the door to see if it had air. I did crawl underneath and look at the frame and everything appeared to be straight. They started it right up the other day and it sounded good as far as I can tell with no leaks of anykind underneath it. It does appear that the hood needs to be aligned - or it may not be closed right. I'm not sure but you can see from the pics. The tires are good, it has the bbs wheels, and the plaque inside but one wheel is missing the sneaky pete center. Is that hard to replace?
Any comments os suggestions would be welcome.

Pics not working. Congrats on the new ride. If I recall the deal you got, you did well no matter what the shape.
Drive it like you stole it!

Hell of a nice car, and the steal of the century. The hood is off, but could be just from closing it wrong. Dont assume its from a wreck. That bumper has enough rash to make me think it has not been painted before. Nonetheless, great deal on a great car. Enjoy it in the best of health.

Yes I hope the hood is just not closed right but i don't know if that is even possible. I will find out when I get it home tomorrow. I also just noticed it has fog lights. I would be suprised now if it didn't have air. I did see a temperature dial inside with a cold and hot setting, but I couldn't see any type of "snowflake" air condt. button.
Thanks!

Car looks GREAT. Looks like it has been tracked, but that's what you'd expect.
If the Hood is just an alignment, then that will be easy.

In regards to the sneaky pete Center cap. They can be had from most dealerships for $$. I think they are around $80 each. Check around.

I may have an extra one around. If I do, you can get my VCA welcome price on it! :D

Oh, and just to let you know how good of a deal you got.
The wheels/tires and Hood alone are worth $10,000! :2tu:

Maybe I am wrong, but it looks like some bolts are missing. Check out the picture of the front grill.
The first thing I would do is take it to a experienced Viper tech and have the car checked out before you drive it.
You got a hell of a deal!

I noticed the missing bolts also. The nose has been off the car. Have it checked out.

Can you guys recommend a good mech in the phila area? I have talked to chuck tater but he is kind of far.
Casey, If you have a snaeky pete center cap I would be interested.
I also noticed there is a cap/button missing of the shifter knob, but I will probably put in a short throw shifter.
Thanks!!

The nose has definitely been off - the fit is pretty bad at the headlight. The nostril area should be pushed tight up against the bumper and not sagging like you see here - not all that uncommon - putting those push fasteners in after putting the nose back on is a PITA. Don't quite understand what all the marks are in the nose, but my guess is - since it's a seizure, that it was damage from towing.

In fact, dragging it by the front can and often does bend the metal plate that attached tothe front frame horn and can "disfigure" the look of the nose.

I'd start by removing the nose and checking out all the mounting. Then, adjusting the headlights with shims and washers. The hood really doesn't adjust, so you move everything else around it.

Congrats on the purchase - as long as it runs strong, with a little time, elbow grease and maybe some paint - you got a STEAL!!!! Enjoy! And please tell us if you find the A/C- that would make it a VERY rare car if it truly doesn't have it.

Congrats, and welcome!

Not only are the nuts missing, but the hood release latch is just hanging there. In the second pic, it looks like the cover panel (right after the door and under the hood) is off kilter and too close to the door, preventing it from being opened.

Do you have a picture of where the hood meets the windshield pillars? Near the side mirrors.

Just as a topic of discussion, I didn't think the 99 ACR had fog lights. I'm under the impression they were deleted.

I'd like a shot under the car to check the shocks.

ACR has the exact same frame. It does have more power, but that is because it comes from the factory with smooth tubes and K&N air filters. Aside from power differences, the ACR also adds adjustable shocks, 5-point race harnesses, BBS wheels and badges. The ACR package also removes the A/C, stereo and the foglights, however the comfort group adds those back in.

Nice car by the way!

The stock GTS had 450hp/490trq, the ACR had 490hp/500trq. (I think) Smooth intake tubes, and low restriction air filters. The ACR also had a higher pressure oil filter adapter, different shocks, BBS wheels, stiffer springs, a/c+radio+fog light delete, special badging, comemorative plaque, and a Dick Tracy decoder ring. A/C and radio were mostly added back in as an option. For all this you paid an extra $10,000!

Don't push on the leading edge of the hood, or you'll crack it! Your hands should be back a foot and a half or so, just above the supports underside, and just inboard of the hood vents. There are adjustment stops that set the height of the front edge of the hood. The latches need to catch before the hood is two-blocked on the stops, or it won't stay closed. Don't let the hood rub much on the headlight assys if possible. Applying some Plexus clear plastic conditioner spray from Pep Boys might clear up the headlight lenses some.

One last thing about the hood, if its partially open, and you drive the car and steer the wheels, it will crack off the tips of the hood near the tires. Don't drive it at all, or even steer the wheels, with the hood up.

Thats enough "caution" for one night! Enjoy!

I thought the acr only had 10 more hp, 460hp, where did you get the 490hp from?

Correct on the 10 hp gain only with smooth tubes and K&N filters. Torque went up 10lbs also. So of course , every Viper owner in the World, spent a tiny bit of money and has the same power as the ACRs.

No ACR had fog lights, and they all came with a harness belt system. If the Momo belts are still in the car, they are recalled and need to be replaced. The Koni shocks ( though they will rattle a bit ) are much more tuneable than the later models and probably the best suspension set-up done on the Viper.

Have fun!

27k from a Marshalls sale? I should have kept my mouth shut on that 03 SRT that is coming up at a Marshall's sale. One of the best prices I've heard on this board yet. Congrats.
