Got pulled over for not using turn signal

We had two Vipers out for a spin last night, my son and his friend in the '96 and my wife and I in the Final Edition. The town was dead. We had driven through the mall area and were about to get onto the main street. We were in the left turn only lane and my son was ahead with his turn signal on. I guess I forgot to put mine on. I had no sooner finished the turn when the lights started flashing in my mirror. When I pulled over the officer (young guy) asked me if my turn signal worked to which I replied yes. He also asked me what year my car was. After he checked my license, insurance and registration he admonished me to use my turn signal but gave me no ticket. I asked him if it was manditory when you are obviously in a left turn only lane at a T intersection to which he replied yes. I didn't ask him if he was having a slow night or if he was bored.

When all was said and done I said to him "Be honest, the only reason you pulled me over was to look at my car, right?" He said "No, I'm not into sports cars. I like 4 wheel drives".

In the end I felt good knowing that my taxes were being put to good use - protecting the public from criminals like me!

Bob,
I am glad no ticket ... because even on a bogus ticket you end up in driving school for 4 hours and a parking ticket fine $75
just to make the nightmare go away with no points on your license so no insurance increase.


the cops know that some tickets are bogus but they want to put you through the above mentioned headache.


Shouldn't the local authorities be on alert for terrorism not traffic

Sheesh, how many cops use their turn signals? <rhetorical question.

For the record, using a turn signal is courteous. Secondly I want all those idiots on the road to know exactly where I'm going. Even though some people think it's a signal to block you off, in the Viper I can usually take the lane no matter what they do.

Actually he might be one of the good cops. Sounds like he could be the type to pull people over for putzing along in the left lane.

Not likly Chuck. He might have the right attitude for that, but its obvious he's too busy on the side streets. Just a stupid question, but how close were you guys to a doughnut shop?

Jumps in front of you? IN A VIPER? The POWER of revenge is sometimes sweet! Back to the topic....I got pulled for 45 in a 35 last night in a ghost town at 3am. No ticket either, just questions about where I worked and how can I afford the car, and the he walked off saying "you go boy!" By the way, insurance companies don't care about the points, the 35 month rule applies...what happens in that period still counts full value towards increased premiums. Thats in my state, anyone else different?

I am 99% sure that in most states, you do NOT have to use your blinker if you are in a left or right turn only lane. If I were you I would look that up, and if there is no such requirement, I would file a complaint with the PD for harassment.

Not because you had such a bad experience, but rather because it keeps them on their toes and makes 'em realize that they have someone to answer to also.

PS. Actually, in Puerto Rico, they drive like it is the Indy 500 and if you put your turn signal on, everyone driving around you gets real upset. It's sort of like driving along blowing your horn.

At an exit on a highway, they get off and get right back on to gain a couple of carlengths!

I got a ticket for speeding pulling my race trailer. Ironically, I was heading for the track. The Valentine went off, but I couldn't slow down in time as we met at the crest of a hill.

Anyway, I went to driver school to have the ticket dismissed. What I thought was funny was the instructor said a turn signal meant "you weren't asking for permission, but you were signalling intent."
