I am not sure what I have... I took my non-greg-good "stage two" and sent them off to Greg. I have to imagine this is a "Stage 3", but then again, who knows what each means. the incremental upgrade for over 100hp at the rear wheels was a steal!

I don't know how the pricing stuff works, but call Greg and he'll tell you what it'll cost. he's an extremely fair and reasonable guy.

BTW - what is the deal with some old threads I started getting resurrected after all this time? Not that I'm complaining... but still!

I don't really use the "Stage" method. From what I've seen, there seem to be three stages of heads. The first one is an entry level head, with what is called an econo-port, which usually consists of blending the bowls and matching the ports to a gasket. The second stage is a "basic" fully ported head that is better than the stage one. It generally has been ported enough to clean up all the casting marks. The stage 3 is a head that is ported to the limits of the casting, within reason of course.

I tend to steer away from the stage two stuff because it looks like a stage three, except it won't perform as well. If someone buys a used set of stage two's thinking they're getting 3's, then they'll be dissapointed.

So, most all of the Viper heads I do now are of what I jsut described as Stage 3. Now, a head can be improved by spending more time fine tuning it on the flow bench. A set of heads that has had a lot of extra fine tuning could be referred to as a Stage 4 I suppose. But in the end, how they run is what we're after. Some things that make a car accelerate faster are not identifiable on a flow bench. High numbers are required, and that's where most head porters usually start.

I prefer to install the larger intake seats and 2.02" valves. The increase from 2" to 2.02" is not the reason. It's the extra diameter of the new seat and the ability to stay in place and hold a valve job under valve float conditions that I like the most.

last I checked for the top ones it was $3700

The heads on my blown 93 cobra were between $700-$1000 for full porting intake/exhaust/chambers either hand or cnc ported from some of the best shops around...

I'm sure GG does great work based on the comments and feedback but paying Viper Tax sure does ****.

Dave

I learned a long time ago to go with the tried and true; even if it costs more. I'd rather pay for something done right the first time by someone like Greg Good, and have the peace of mind that I'm not going to have my car down for a long time because I'm having to get something fixed because I went with the cheapest price. I've been on this board for years, and I've never heard a bad word or complaint about Greg or his work. I'm not knocking the BPE Heads or Performance Cylinder Heads, I've just never heard of them before so I don't know if they have as good a reputation as Greg Good.

Greg good is simply one of the best if not the best guy in the viper world! Very very intelligent guy! He has so much knowledge about performance engines its scary! He will take the the time to explain everything in detail when hes not porting a customers heads. He helped me put together a heads and cam car that we think will break into the 10's. Shhh the cam is Big and Nasty:) the car is everthyining Mr Good said it would be! Pulled a gtr the other day from 1st gear right thru:) not bad for a 99' rt. Keep in mind he's busy! Hes in demand. No need to be pushy. When ur heads are done youll get them back and youll be happy that they are the best they can possibly be! Thanks again Mr good. I think u were right about those spark plugs too!!!!

Greg is a great guy and he definitely knows engines. He's the best aroung imo. I am fortunate to be only 40 miles from his shop. When he did my heads I asked him what I might expect as far as horsepower on my Gen.1. He told me probably 475 rwhp and possibly up to 500 rwhp. I didn't believe it would be that much but it was. And this was with his Ecocoport job and a 708 cam. His full port job and his cam would have been even better. I went with the 708 cam because I already had a brand new one ready to go.
