While driving my car (sufficiently warmed up), I have been experiencing the idle hangin up around 1,700-2,000. It will work its way down to the normal 750 or so after 5-20 seconds, but it's a pain in slow traffic. While the problem is intermittent, it seems to be happening with more consistency. I just had to replace my front 02 sensors again (darned SVS headers !) and thought this would fix it, but it hasn't.

I know others have posted their diagnosis and solutions, could some of you please reply to this post again ? I suspect MAP sensor, but the tech at the dealer when we replaced the 02 sensor said it tested out fine. Could it be the TPS ?

Forgot to mention that I had the intake gaskets replaced in 98 with the updated version. Could/would they be likely to go bad again ?

Rocky,

Your dealer could have replaced the gaskets with the old style gasket. The new gasket part number should end in 194AC.

If the gasket looks like a strip of bacon between the ports, you can assume that it is the problem.

RockyTop,

I had the same experience as as you describe. I believe I have found a fix for my particular problem. If you come out to the GA VCA Dyno day, I will show you my solution. It may work for you as well.

Lord, I will probably hate myself for even getting in this discussion, but here goes.

First of all, if you will do a "search" on this topic, you will find numerous posts. I have been one of the people who have experienced this problem and fought it continually. I replaced the IAC motor and base, battery, intake gaskets, pcm etc. with limited success. Sooner or later the problem would reoccur. My last attempt was to readjust the individual throttle stops, which in recent months has yielded some success. The adjustment is very touchy in relation to how it effects the idle speed motor. Check with Dan Craign www.thevipershop.com He may have some suggestions pertaining to your problem. As always, please let us know how you make out with this problem as many have had this issue at one time or another.

There. Now I have given me two cents. I suppose my idle will start hanging again! (LOL)
