A friend of mine has a 360 Modena-F1- and is bugging me to go a couple round. I have basic mod's as you can see below. We going to try light to light, of a roll & from highway cruising speed.
Just curious what to expect, I just do not want to get my *SS kicked, otherwise I'll never hear the end of it. Any one out there race one?

They are pretty fast...
I never got to challenge one in naturally aspirated form. However, I had the pleasure of making one feel slow right after we finalized our LETHAL 750 package. I was in 3rd at around 65 mph, he hit it, I gave him a courtesy car length lead, and then I hit it. Next thing I know he is about 3+ car lengths behind me. I would imagine it might be a pretty close race at higher speeds due to the fact of aerodynamics,etc..

Good luck!

Don't worry you ll beat him. Just launch properly and don't spin the tires. From a roll it shouldn't be a problem if you have it in the right gear. Good luck

You'll smoke him by 3cars or better,if your a bad driver.Butch the Snakes got one,the f-1 trans has some sort of delay when he lets the clutch out and its hard to launch that car without smoking the tires in a street race. The race will be closer from a roll.It would take a Indy driver to stay within a couple cars of you

A Viper will smoke a 360 in 1/4 and probably top end. I followed one at 145mph. I don't know if he had any more in it but I've done 175mph with the soft top.

Let's face it though, it's still a Ferrari and they are sweet cars.

[perfect time to plug an upcoming event.]
Come on down to Homestead FL Oct 18,19 and find out for yourself. The Ferrari Owners Club of Florida has invited Vipers to race with them. School rules (Ferrari owners don't wanna wreck their cars either). I talked to the organizer last night and he said they invited the Lotus club too. Sound like fun???

Here goes my story(closed track off course), this was about 3 years ago when my viper was brand new and completely stock. My car is a 99 RT(Top off at the time), with a passenger holding a cake(for the race victory).

Pulling of the highway onto Tampa blvd a silver 360 modena is spotted by myself and my cake holding passenger going the same direction. Since this was a close track and all, we decided that it was worth the risk for the kill story, and personal knowledge of how a viper could stack up against one. So off I go to make a quick fly by to see if the driver wants to play and make a fast right onto a different course in front of him, and to my surprise he follows willingly.

1st race-As I still was not sure on his commitment to use the full potential of his machine he was given the head start about 3-4 car lengths. After realizing his eagerness to win full power was applied and the distance was made up by 2nd gear, and by the top of 3rd the 360 was at least 2-3 car lengths behind.

2nd race-Knowing that he would want to prove his manlyhood to his blond passenger another attempt was made, in which he got the jump and was horribly annihilated by top of 2nd by at least 3-4 car lengths.

3rd race-My passenger and I figured that it was time to leave the poor guy alone and go home to deliver the eagerly awaited Strawberry short cake from Juniors Deli, which was still undamaged due to the quick hands of my co pilot.

We turn off to make the right hand turn back on the highway, and the 360 is following. Oh well maybe he just needed to go the same way, at the next light he punches it again pulling out at least 5-6 car lengths and me not ready to rumble. For the sake of trying I decide to try and catch him, which I do by 3rd gear blowing past him like he was standing still.

After getting back on the highway and getting back of at the right exit, and awaiting to make a left turn by my house the modena pulls up next to me to talk this time. His first words were "what the hell did you do to that thing?" My reply nothing completely bone stock, he could not believe it. He went on to say how no matter how hard he tried the viper was wayyyyy faster and that the final race where he got the big jump he was sure that he would win, but no luck the viper still had him easy.

Anyway he was a good sport and I still see him every once in a while cruising in his X5, maybe I should race him in that? It will probably do no worse than the 360.

PS. The cake made it home safe with only a little of the frosting being smudged on the box.

sorry russ, i dont believe your story. a viper is faster than a 360, but giving one the heads up, a 4 car length lead, and putting 3 car lengths on him by the end of 2nd gear in a bone stock rt10? not trying to flame you or anything, but never in a million years.

I raced a 360 back before I made the Venom conversion. I smoked him big time. I completely agree with Russ.

Allanlambo,

Don't really care weather you believe me or not, it is not my intention to impress you just tell you my encounter with a 360. Believe me, I had no idea that a 360 would not give me a good race and I was fully expecting to loose.

Clancy,

I have no idea what you are mumbling, don't care what you did with your "fists of fury" just keep them away from me.

allanlambo,

As I read Russ's account, it appears that maybe the Ferrari driver didn't know how to extract the full potential of his machine. Don't forget that not every exotic owner is as willing or skilled at racing, as maybe you are. You know some F-car owners are office types, and they treat their cars like precious garage queens. (I would too, if I owned a Ferrari) They may not know how to rev it just right.

Also-Maybe his car was not broken in yet, or maybe it had a problem of some sort. He might have had a full tank and Russ might have been light on fuel. That could make a few hundred pound differential.

Russ is not the kind of person to fabricate stories to impress anyone, and I beleive he only reported what happened. Notice that he didn't just assume the F-car driver was committed to having a go. (Like every Mustang and ricer owner out there, that blows by a Viper, they always think the Viper was at full tilt, and always assume it was a kill, even when the Viper was just sort of cruising, or not trying 100%)

Someone who makes up stories doesn't include fair judgements like that, they just spout off about how fast they are, like an arm-chair hero.

Regardless, the Viper has the edge, if the car mags are to be believed. But I wouldn't think it was so much an advantage, and I am puzzled by Russ' account. The Viper shouldn't have done that well.

All that aside, I'd love to have a 360, they are beautiful, stylish, and exciting machines.

vic, i agree with you 100%. i do beleive the viper is the faster to car, but not fast enough to make up a 7 car lead in 2 gears and giving the ferrari owner a head start. in my opinion its the first 2 gears where it would be closest, and then once in 3rd the viper would start to pull.

Russ,
I want him to keep his hands away from me too. No telling what he has been doing with his hands after improving his wrist action.

Vic, Vic, Vic...you are so naive. Didn't you recently start tracking your Viper? Understand this man - it is now in your blood. If you owned a Ferrari you'd be on their board askin' about alignment specs.

Chuck Christy is retired, and you dont want some old lady. Candi is young and REAL cute, she got the hots for PMUM but they haven't hooked up yet, she's been practicing her S & M for that day to come. I guess she can practice on you, she has this real cool black leather paddle with the word "SPANK" spelled backwards in chrome studs so when she plants a good one you got the word "spank" spelled out on your butt. You listening Mumford???
