I was 11B40 in the Army, 4th Ivy Division out of FT.Carson, deployed for the Nam in Nov. of 74---not much conflict left then, but hey it only takes one bullet fired in anger to change the out look of your day.....

Joined the Navy to learn a trade, Yeah right, they stuck me on a aircraft carrier for 3 1/2 years.

Me and Mike were trying to stir up some trouble last night is all,not wanting to start a war of words, just playing.....

As far as vettes' go around here, not many like to race, so I have only raced a few that would get on it.....

IMO the SRT is more refined in ALL areas over the GTS. But it is also a better car overall than the GTS, except in one area- STYLING.

When the general public thinks "VIPER" they think of the GTS.

Case in point-

My office is in a fairly large multistory building. As I was walking into the building one morning, about 10 people were walking out into the garage. I joked about it being a fire-drill, and one of them said, "No, we are going to see someone's new Viper." I turned around, and when all of us got up to the second floor of the parking garage, I saw a very nice Silver SRT.

However, two comments echo the general public- one woman said, "Where is the Viper" - although we were less than 15-20 feet from it. And one man said, "Nice car, but I thought it was the other Viper" - obviously a reference to the GTS.

It was a very nice looking Viper, but to the general public, it is not "THE VIPER".

For the record, I like BOTH the GTS and the SRT, but....

IMO many years from now, when someone says, "Viper" the general public will still think GTS. It was just a radical design for it's time, and was and is very popular.

Bluesnake, I know what you were doing my brutha, I was just trying to keep it going. :D

11 Bravo. That's infantry, right? Me too. I was 0311/0369 Infantry. Looks like we did not do too bad for a couple of dumb grunts. :2tu:

I am not quite as salty though. My tour lasted from 2/82 to 10/92. If you ever get to Denver, look me up. Beers are on me.

Viper was born as RT10, not GTS, I like the GTS, but the SRT is much closer to the original, the one and only RT10

I agree. The "real" Viper was the RT/10. The GTS is the RT/10 morphed into a coupe and never had the rawness of the Gen I RT/10. I would say the majority of people recognize the RT/10 as a Viper. And a lesser number the GTS. And lesser yet the SRT. No one can mistake the silhouette of the RT/10 for anything. But the GTS silhouette can be mistaken for a ... vette.

While I agree that the original RT/10 is the true Viper, in my experience, MOST people that know what a Viper is associate the blue with white stripe 1996 and 1997 GTS as the most recognizable Viper.

I've lost count of the number of times people would look at my old gen 1 RT/10 or my current gen 2 RT/10 and express surprise that the Viper came as a "convertable" (their words, not mine), evidently unaware the all 1992-1995 Vipers were *******. I guess the '96 GTS got enough press to eclipse the gen 1?

I am aware that the RT10 is the TRUE/ ORIGINAL Viper. I said when the general public thinks "Viper" they think GTS.

So far, everyone that has commented about my Viper knew exactly what it was.

I think the "real" Viper is the one that has a big ass V10 under the hood. No matter what generation it is.

I never mistook the GTS for a vette, and as DSR7 pointed out with the pics a few pages back - the New C6 ZO6 Vette and the SRT look quite similar.

I am guessing you are still in "fighting mode"?

I said IMO - In My Opinion - the general public thinks of the GTS as "The Viper".

NO, I did not base my opinion on the two comments about the Silver SRT.

Shall I document every instance that led me to believe that the general public views the GTS as "The Viper"?

WOW! Some of the SRT Owners ARE touchy. LOL!

Again, I like BOTH the GTS and the SRT. The above is my opinion about how the general public views Vipers, and is not intended to be a slam against the SRT. The RT10 was the TRUE/ ORIGINAL Viper, but IMO since it's design is quite similar to the Cobra, the GTS has a more distinctive shape, and therefore many years from now, the GTS will be what the general public thinks of when thinking back on Vipers. That I believe the GTS will be remembered as "The Viper" is not a slam on the RT10 either, it's just my opinion about how the general public thinks. I like the RT10. I like ALL Vipers. I didn't respond to "fight", I responded to give my opinion.

-Just a member of the general public :smirk:

Did you see the new coupe? Come on.That looks nothing like the Viper. What kind of rear is that. I love the SRT but it's redefined for the times. The Genll will always be a brutal looking car.Kinda says fck you in your face when you look at her.

While my 96 was better looking than my 03 in my opinion, the 03 is a much better car. Drive one, and then tell me differently. The brakes alone are worth the switch.
Which begs the question of why we compare the generations at all. We all own Vipers, which makes us very, very lucky.

URHISTRY With your 5 post count I find it very difficult that you have been voted in to speak for the entire public. Therefore what you should say is that YOU think the GTS is "the Viper." Unless you have some form of determining the public's opinion (e.g. poll, etc.) then you should not speak for them.

I for one have owner Vipers for over a decade. Of course that included RT/10 as the GTS did not exist yet. And to me the RT/10 and GTS are essentially the same with the difference being the roof and rear fascia. Not that much really, anbd certainly not enough to discount one over another. They are both Vipers.

BTW the comment about the GTS silhouette was from the Gen I/II forum, and has been posted many times over through the years. The silhouette of the GTS and the C3 is very similar.

Cris-

I can see how you would find ANYTHING difficult after thinking the silhoutte of a GTS looks like a vette.

Again, I said -In My Opinion- the general public..... - Guess you can't understand that either? More difficulties?

5 post count - and your point is? I too owned a Viper over a decade ago, but, there was no such thing as Viperclub.org back then, sorry I couldn't post enough back then to have My Opinion today. Since you seem to have difficulty, I'll just go ahead and tell you which model I had -it was an RT10.

I had sold my RT10 by the time Viperclub.org got started, so I didn't register here till last summer when I began to look into Vipers again. Guess which model I have been looking into? Oh, nevermind, you'll just have more difficulty - an SRT.

I think the problem is that your opinion and the general public are two separate things. You can state your own opinion, but not the opinion of the general public (unless you have some basis for it). So I guess I cannot understand it either.

BTW, what is my opinion as you seem to have the ability to read minds?

HaHa!

As I posted above- It is My Opinion of how the general public views Vipers. So, it would be "My Opinion" of the general public's "opinion". Get it? :D

Your opinion on Vipers is that you prefer them in RED. :D

and roofless. But see you had evidence there. j/k

But we really cannot know what the general public thinks beyond the few we interface with through time, which is a very small cross-section. I also think the majority of people have not had the experience to actually get up close to a Viper. Any Viper. There just is not that many of them and most are in their garage at any point in time.

So car guys/gals probably get most of what they see from the media (mostly magazines) and the image Viper has changed through the years. Not sure wehicj version has been on more covers or articles, but I am certain there is a time element with the GTS having more during the Gen II period and the RT/10 getting all of it during the Gen I time. So it may depend a lot on the age of the person as the Gen I high volume publicity was back in 89-95 and the GTS from 95-2000. Neither has had a lot of publicity in the last 5 years. Even the SRT has had minimal coverage since the pre-launch period, and that publicity was generally poor (fried eggs, et. al.).

I agree with that.

And your reasoning above is why I said "My Opinion" and "I believe" when I posted about the general public's "opinion". I was not stating facts.

To a car guy, a Viper is a Viper. They are ALL Vipers. I like every model ever made.
