My brother in-law is getting a R/T10 and wants to buy my Borla headers that I took off my 2002 GTS. I just wanted to make sure they will work for him. I'm not sure yet what year R/T10 he's getting. So it's a yes?
Good to see you still here Adam. How's the Lambo running for you?
What we are trying to say is that nobody really knows for sure, well maybe Jack knows. I was told that the Gen2 and Gen1 blocks were slightly different and that headers for one would not fit on another. Get a quarter, flip it into the air and call heads for yes and tails for no.
I'll tell ya it depends on the car. I have seen them fit (B&B) both the Gen I and II. The best answer is try it and hope for the best! Report back, tell what your experience was
To put the 98 and later tube headers on a Gen1 you have to cut off the reinforcing bar that ties the header tubes together - that is a five minute job with a cutoff tool (for JD, about one minute). The next step is to mate the draw-in clamp to the Gen1 turn-out, again, farily simple.
Click the "Photos" link below my avatar, and the first 2 pictures showing '98 tube headers will show you all you need to know about fitting Gen 2 tube headers to a Gen 1.
Well almost; You need to have the Gen 2 flex pipe section in order to clamp the header to the flex pipe section, and you will need shorter bolts (20 of them)to bolt the header to the head. The stock cast manifold bolts are too long.
I've never actually seen '96/'97 manifolds (always had headers). They are not even a shorty tube header like the later years, but big 'ole heavy iron ones?
