Hey everyone, I am on the verge of bringing my car to the dealer or driving it into a jersey barrier, don't know which one would be the lesser evil:mad: I have not driven the car for more than a week without throwing codes, (have had it for 6 months). My current problem is code 505 (idle control system malfuntion).

I have rebooted the PCM, held down and released gas with key on, cleared code but it came back on after running for sveral min. This procedure has been done several times. The battery is only 4 months old. Once warmed up idle is around 650-700.

The idle control sensor has been cleaned. What is the difference between:

idle air control valve
idle air control motor
idle air control sensor

Are there any other components that dictate idle. I know it is controlled through the PCM. 96 GTS, Roe, heads, borla. Any ideas? I like to work on my vehicles and need as much info as possible. Of course, this is the place to obtain said info

Thanks, Bill

Post your finding here. I went through the IAC motor error for months. Did it myself. It was none of the suggestions anyone made. It was a wire that rubbed through and shorted.
Good luck and be patient

It actually rubbed through under the brake booster area. The wire loom was touching near the heat shield (alum angle plate) on drivers side. It rubbed through a screw fastening the heat shield. This was from a broken clip that holds the wiring to the drivers side inner fender.
