The SRT8 Jeep is a much better choice for his wife and kids. Bigger, safer, roomier, larger cargo capacity, easier to service, and a whole lot of fun because most people do not know what it is.

You made an interesting point about the SRT8. I had a student with one at a Time Trial event a few years ago. He brought his wife and his son with him for the day in complete comfort. Before we headed out onto the track, we dropped them off at the stands near the pit entrance (Pocono Raceway). I got a kick out of that for some reason. I mean, we were also doing 135-140 mph on the straight so that was kind of fun.

Of all the vehicles I've instructed in, that stands out as one of the most memorable.

Great story. Thanks for posting. When I first got my Jeep SRT8, I brought it down to the Homestead Speedway road course for a track day. This was sometime in late 2008 or early 2009. After the first few laps, after I pulled into the garage area, two Chevy techs who were there as part of a high performance Corvette owner's crew came over and said: "What the h**l is that thing? We could not believe we were watching an SUV going around this road course like that."

I told them about the car and we all had a good laugh about it.

An even more amusing reaction occurred after I supercharged it. In March, 2010, I ran it at a standing mile event and did 159.52 MPH. People could not believe a brick could go that fast. It beat quite a few cars. On one of the runs, the left front wheel came off the ground a smigeon at launch.

The vehicle is the best all around vehicle I have ever owned.

There was one at Palm Beach last weekend and it ran low 11s...Big SUV running like that. It must have been supercharged or twin turboed...I could not believe it....

The FAA stopped it after the promotor from New York let some of his buddies do donut burnouts on the runway and did not clean it off. It was a big loss since the venue was perfect. Incredibly safe. 10,400 feet long and 150 feet wide with grass all around.

Ok, I have over 50k track miles in a Viper and approx 50k canyon miles in a 911. I am a lifelong resident of Colorado. I would take the Viper (ESP the ACR) for the track and the 911 for the canyons. Ppl who say its heavy have never driven one esp hard driving. They are nimble and light feeling in the cockpit. Porsche guys say the Viper is heavy feeling and I correct them often. As far as speed on the track goes, I will have a chance to compare the TS with G5 time (stock record?) at High Plains Raceway soon. ;)

Boxer 12,if you have a 997 or 991 Turbo S (PDK),it will run 10.60s to 10.90s@128/129 all day long bone stock.Just put it in Sport Plus,PSM OFF,Brake hard,full gas and wait for green light ,release brake fast and hold on...Easy...

Go around the water at the track,no burn out required...

Gen.5 Mid 11.30s to 60s.... Average Driver... Big Burn out required and clutch slippage required...

I own a 2009 ACR and a 2014 Porsche 911 Turbo S ,

I love both as both are very capable and different ! but if i had to choose one car only - sorry it has to be the Porsche !

Some in the future will ride in or drive a new Turbo S and they will understand why people bump up to Twin Turbine Porsches with DCT and Insane Launch Control...

I'd buy two GTR's before I bought one Turbo S. Same money, same feel, two cars for the price of one.

Nothing about the feel is the same and the quality difference if off the charts when comparing quality of the 911 to the GTR. Are you really saying you have driven both and think the feel is the same?
I'd buy two GTR's before I bought one Turbo S. Same money, same feel, two cars for the price of one.

The two cars are competitors. Both have 3.8 liter twin turbocharged 6 cylinders. Both have AWD. Both have DCT. Both are ugly. The Porsche is simply not worth the extra money.

I am just saying, if you have not driven either, that is not a fully educated statement to make. Lets say you had $200k in your pocket and wanted to buy a sports car with it. Heck, for arguments sake, lets say the money was given to you for this purpose. I don't think you would be even comparing these two cars as part of your decision, but if you were, you would drive both. Having driven both, it is a no brainer that I would pick the 911 and it would be worth the difference in my opinion. The reason is because the quality of the car is so much higher, the driving experience so much more fun and overall engineering so much better. The GTR is very ugly in my opinion so would never want one, let alone two in my garage, but that is an opinion.

End of the day, I get you don't like either car and particularly 911's, but, just saying if that is because of looks, I get it, but if based upon feel/quality/etc, I do think you have to drive to experience. Much like people that comment on Gen5's but have never driven one because they believe they are like prior models.

I'm sure the 911 Turbo S is a great car....I'm just not a fan. It's a boring car to me. Dull lines. Looks like a frog.

Was out driving last weekend and I counted at least 15 Porsches in a 30 minute period at random locations along my route (There was no car show or anything like that going on). Most of them were silver or white and most of their drivers were eye-******* my Viper as they drove by. I found this to be quite funny. :D

Depends on the porsche man. I never see anybody driving my porsche - 991 GT3.

Free2go,this is all fun,but you really do not know what you are talking about in reference to the Porsche 911 Turbo Ss.While you may not like looks.I/many do,I will tell you that the quality of the car is perfect and it will run 10 second runs every time,with at least 200 mph top speed.That said,it drives like a Bentley with everything off.I have owned 3 Vipers for over 15 years,C6 ZR1s and C6Z06 and many other HP cars.Yes,it is big bucks.I am currently in the market to add another car/toy and am deciding between a McLaren 650s or the Lambo Hurcan.While the Hurcan is on par with the Turbo S and the McLaren is faster,I really do not like them more than the Turbo S. They are both 300,000.00 with goodies.So,the TS at 200,000.00 is really a good deal.

The real deal are these Gen.5s in the 80s,but me personally I am done with that shifting.....

The Germans are good engineers, but when it comes to car styling....well, they ****. I've never liked the Mercedes, the BMW's, the Volkswagen's, the Audi's....none of them. The Germans are a very serious and practical people and it shows in their auto designs. I want to look at a car and be inspired. The Italians know how to do this well.

I am not a porsche fanboy , but let me tell you this , no car on the market today gives you the combination of the power , quality ,handling , style and comfort like the Porsche 911 TTS . And i recall reading an article that some german magazine slapped on a set of GT3 tires and the TTS was in fact faster on track than a GT3 !! the thing is faster than my ACR 09 , ten times more comfortable , with light years better interior and in general much higher quality than my snake , the LC is crazyyyy too :rolaugh: and a turbo car is easier to tune for more power , an easy 80-90 hp are just a tune + exhaust away .

The only problem i find with the car is its so quite and i solved it by ordering a AWE exhaust yesterday :D .

I bought it for 190K , which infact i find as such a good bargain for what you get .

I am planning for my next car in a year or so , and am thinking about another beetle :)) thinking about a 991 GT3RS .

These are my 2 cents ! take them the way you like.
