I noticed on my 2004 SRT especially in cold wheater that when I get off the accelerater it takes a longer period of time for the engine to actually come back to the normal idling rpms. Its a bit annoying especially in city traffic, because the car has a tendency to run away. Any ideas?

Mine does that after sitting for the winter with a tank of stale fuel in it. As soon as I put in clean fuel the problem goes away.

Explaining Viper things to you
My '01 does that quite a bit creeping up to traffic lights. Maybe just at about 1000-1200 rpm or so. Usually drops to regular idle rpm's as I finally stop moving, if not before that. Not a winter thing for sure here in Texas, and really not of concern to me either. Just something I noticed, and it seems others notice it too.

Mine does it periodically too. If I shut it off and then restart it it goes away and stays away for a while. It eventually returns though after cycling the engine on and off a few times after running around. The fix is the same, shut it off and then restart.

Aparently this is an ongoing problem for a lot of owners. Skeetachya had this problem for a while at it got worse. There is an Idle air valve/filter? of some kind that just needs to be cleaned often. Tator walked him through it, very easy to do. Give him a shout if the problem persists.

The dry weather will clog that quickly and the seldom driving around winter time compounds the problem.

Yeah happened to me when I installed the single blade throttle body. Come and goes.

I think I got my idle issue fixed today. I had the dealer replace my AIC Motor. They also reset the adaptives for it through their scan tool when they replaced it. I drove it pretty hard for about 60 miles after having it replaced and all seems well for now.

Another thing I could live without is that single blade TB. Same issue where ifyou slow down the idle takes a moment to follow. It amazes me how people boast about the hp gain etc. I got less and less torque also. I am a sucker for more speed and performance but its elusive.

Had this problem in many a past Mustang...luckily not yet in my Viper. If I cleaned the IAC valve and throttle plate with throttle body cleaner it would clear up for a few thousand miles then eventually come back...more often on supercharged cars.

I doubt you will see or feel any substitative gain in power. I like it because of the increased throttle response. I dont like it because of the idle issues. At this point the issues arent bad enough to anoy me. I have been told to back out the set screw 1/8 and reset the computer which includes pulling the plugs out of the computer itself for at least a few hours. Havent tried it yet.
