Not a good way to start my day. 4:30 this morning heading up to work on route 287N in the viper I hit a retread doing about 65, that was laying across 80% of the slow lane. Of course the @#$#@ had to laying on it's high side. It is not a sound anyone with a viper wants to here. Blew apart the the fascia by the drivers fog light. Don't know what else yet.
I know serves me right...driving in the slow lane. Had to say it before you guys did.
What a mess. I was able to get it to the dealer (Warnock East Hanover) Now I have to wait and see what the parts list looks like.
What is the fastest way to get a front fasica and stuff.
Dave :(

And call your insurance company. I believe this would be covered by comp as you were not at fault.

He has too!!! You have no idea how much half these panels cost from the factory!!!

Don't worry she will be as good as new!!!

Is this something you can sue/complain to the state about to get some compensation?

You know that's one of the many things I spotted yesterday on 287. (Besides Dave's viper, a red Alfa Romeo, and a white Hummer H1) There's alot and I mean ALOT of tread just sitting on the shoulder. Isn't the state supposed to clean that stuff up?

The roads between somerville and the Woodbridge/Fords exits are really rough too and unlike Route 1, on 287 the pattern between asphalt and concrete changes alot so I can't imagine what the tires go through.

Plus I've been wanting to say this for a while, the exits for some places are just stupid the way there setup. I think towards Somerville it's anywhere from 2-3 lanes. As you make your way down here it shrinks from 4 to 3 to 2 lanes in a blink of an eye and twice already I've had to go through the shoulder at 50-60 mph and when I try to get off at my exit there is just a ton of huge potholes.

Good luck with your insurance; I had a similar mishap a few years ago with a Corvette but my insurance said it was an avoidable incident and would be charged to my record with them as a claim and cause my insurance to go up. The incident was at night, hitting a knocked over dirty traffic cone. I ended up fixing the car with my own funds.

There is a similar post you should look for.

BTW, I think I saw that tire - it was bouncing (moving) from the previous vehicle hitting it and was thown (moving) into your lane, right?

Add me to the list that thought the same thing.

Sorry 'bout your car, I narrowly missed a flying chunk of tire a few years ago in my RT/10. It literally flew right over my head while the top was off..

Tired it before. They always place guilt with someone else and unless you are willing to spend the money with an attorney just to prove a point, you will never win. It really stinks. I had a problem on the NJ Turnpike. Idiots were doing work and letting the rocks from the drilling all onto the highway will ill regard. State said it was not their fault and the construction companies fault yet they were working for the state??? STUPID!

You guy are too funny...retard...
I followed that other post and realize it would have to be thrown from another vehicle or something. Otherwise in the eyes of the insurance co. I should have been traveling slow enough to avoid it. Looks like the damage is cosmetic, so it will be the front fascia and the bit of carbon fiber plate behind it. I'll post the final cost when it is done. I hope I get it back by the weekend.

Like I said before call your insurance company. If it was lying in the road or got thrown they will still cover it under comp. Hell I just had my insurance company pay for a new wiring harness that was chewed on by mice on my wifes subaru that was outside my shop. This is what comp is for and it does not raise your rated as no one is at fault.

Just an up date...what was thought to be just the fascia ($2100)turned into about $5200. When they took off the bumper it revealed damage to the subfender.(a large piece of fiberglass that goes from the wheel well down the front side panel. ($2500 + 5.6 hours labor.)
At this point I call the insurance co. It is charged as an at fault collision. Waiting to talk with an adjuster to find out the consequences. :(
