Hello All,

I am not yet an owner but like some others I am looking to buy my first Viper this year. My dream is the GTS coupe and I am observing the market here in Germany and also in the US since quite some time. Just recently I figured a certain difference between 2 GTS coupes, one MY 1999 and the other one MY2000. As hopefully you can see from the pictures, these two differ in shape of the hood in a certain area (shown by the yellow arrow). The 1999 model hood seems to be much sharper than the 2000. Now, I am wondering, if this is normal or if this may be an indication for an aftermarket hood, thus indicating an earlier damage of the car? :dunno:.

Thanks a lot in advance for your interpretation of the difference! :feedback:

My 2001 RT/10 hood has a rounded edge, similar to the 2000 in the photo. Also, the fasteners that attach the wheel liner to the front fascia on my Viper are black hex heads. The 1999 looks to have stainless fasteners there. That 1999 may have a history that you may not like.

It's hard to tell from the pictures you've posted because the angles slightly differ but I'm sure all years GTS's have the same shape.
Here's my 99

That is an easy piece to break off. Can be easily caught on a piece of clothing when leaning across or walking around car. The 1999 has some hood and/or front bumper alignment issues. That area should be parallel to each other. The front bumper screws in the wheel wheel on the 99 are also shiney it appears. Mine on my 98 are black.

My former red Gen 1 was somewhere in the middle--it was not as pointed, but not as rounded.

The silver 98 Gen 2 I had was much more pointed.

My yellow 2001 was exactly like the rounded one.

All cars were original un-touched.

Also, as far as the screws go... On my Gen 1, I replaced all the screws around the wheels wells, under the front and rear fascia using stainless steel. I got the idea from a friend who also has a Gen 2 and did the same thing. Sometimes those old black screws start to look bad so some people replace them with stainless.

So, it looks like there is quite a variance bewteen cars. You, my friend, have a very good eye!

The later vipers did have the edge near the headlight rounded of compared to the older years.. Due to the point braking off easy....

Yes, starting in 2000, the edge was rounded to prevent breakage. This is one of the only ways to visually detect a creampuff.

Thanks to all for your valuable feedback, much appreciated :1up:

So, it seems that the 99 hood might still be stock.

One other thing I noticed just know looking at the pics again (don't know why I haven't noticed earlier :brick:): the brake caliper of the 2000 GTS is red and not black. I am not sure, but I think the stock calipers were always painted black, weren't they?

Regards,

Holgi
