I'm trying to figure out how to get the hood speakers to work on my new Viper? I can't even figure out how to remove the grill off the speaker on the hood of the car to see what kind of speakers are in there. I assume they are water proof, right? Looks like one side doesn't have a speaker too :( Where can I buy them? And maybe I am crazy, but why did they put speakers on the outside of the car anyway???

Thanks, and sorry if this is a noobie question, but I couldn't find anything on a SEARCH.

Manny - i upgraded my hood speakers to red Sony Xplods to match my car...they look great

Factory ones were crap - with the top on and the windows in, i couldn't hear them...

I don't know. Maybe you have a wire or two loose as my speakers work just fine. The only thing I haven't figured out is why they repeatedly belt out a V10 sound with no thought to what is in the CD player.

I have a small microphone in the car, and everytime I want, there comes this deep, Darth Vader like voice out of them saying : "Get the fu** off the road, bidge!"

Dodge put the speakers there so that everyone outside of your car can enjoy your music as well. I belive they are the Bose outdoor speakers and are waterproof. I have been to many great outdoor parties where we used the "outdoor speaker system" on my Viper for our musical entertainment for the evening.
You should call Bose directly at 1-800-367-4008 as they have an activation code that you need - should have been activated when you took delivery but is sometimes overlooked.
Keep us posted!

Never had a problem with mine. I installed a switch to where I can cut off the inside speakers and listen to the outside speakers only. My neighbors flipped when I was washing the car with the outside speakers blaring and I squirted the hose directly on the outside speakers. It really drew a crowd. Just another reason to own a D-C product.

Manny I have a set of speakers but they are red.Let me know if you want them.

Bernie, they are waterproof right? Do you have to open your hood to put them in or can you pull the grills right off the top of your hood and slide them in that way? If I drive real fast, can I hear them better since I am driving "into" the sound waves (kind of like steam coming from the engine) :2tu:

manny, i dont think GenI cars had functional hood speakers. something to do with the wires overheating or something, and shorting out the amplifier woofers in the trunk

Since you brought up the matter I will confess that external speakers were the primary reason for my purchase.

Be VERY careful which speakers you use as replacements!! There have been reports that certain knock-off "look-alikes" have caused an overload of the RF system and actually shorted out the amplifier flux-bridge. When that happens the doors fail to operate normally, the windshield wipers run backwards, and the "lasers" in the headlights become useless!

I can see it now..

Manny, some guy is going to come up to you and kick your *** and with each hit:

"This is for making me wait for the Coupe that is non exsistant, and THIS is for making me look like a dumbazz in front of the dealer asking if I could hear the external speakers"

I added the sunroof option to my GTS so that I could hear the outside speakers too. The ambience sounds much better now!

Even a novice Viper owner knows that the Gen1 cars do not have speakers on both sides. Yearly Gen1 cars were MONO, not stereo.
You could upgrade from Dodge dealer, but Chuck Tator just keeps laughing when I want to buy one more...

Wiring them must be really tricky, since the wires seems to be imbedded in the fiberglass? I do not want to repaint my hood for just one more speaker.

I heard you can get stereo sound from the Gen1 hood speakers by running a bridge to the amplifier, then rerouting the plasma conduit through the flux capacitor matrix. BE CAREFUL not to use too large of an amplifier, anything over 1.21 Gigawatts.....

I had a pair of little JBL emblems at work and I put them on my GTS with a little loop of masking tape, on the speaker grills. I overheard a guy tell his buddy.."See, told ya they were speakers!".

Another good one is to tell onlookers that the bubble levels in the headlights are mercury switches that will shut down the engine like traction control if the front end raises too much over 150MPH.

It took me a long time to learn how to hook the speakers up to the security alarm so that potential intruders can hear a personal message. I saw a hint about the procedure in the owner's manual, but the real info is in the video that comes with the car. Then, just this weekend I found out about Technical Bulletin 510 that allows you to patch in a direct cell phone line to the police department. These speakers are one of the best features on the car!

MANNY!...who in the world told you those were speakers? The cars that have those actually came with the P11A365S758T233A(Pasta strainer) option group. The group was VERY rare and was only included on those cars meant for italian chefs that worked at McDonalds. Obviously, you got one of the rarer models and must realize what a find you have.
Congrats my friend. And if you do come across another one for sale...you will let me know won't you?

Grazie.

I removed the Mono Hood Speaker from my 95 RT, as I wanted some additional heat dissipation. Seems to work well. :2tu:

I really can't understand why people remove them...

While having sex on the hood it's such a big pleasure to put in a Berry White CD (Or Guns N' Roses if you're one of the harder guys) and having the music simply next to your ears... It's such a waste!

This works even better on GEN II hoods, because DC fortunately decided to cut grilles in it, so that you don't really have to wash everything away after 'it', like you have to on RT hoods.

Actually, you are not missing anything. US spec cars did not come with the speakers installed due to noise violation laws. The euro spec cars came with Alpine speaker to match the factory stereo. That's also why some people complain about the stock stereo sound. :2tu:

However, removing the speakers actually created greater airflow under the hood. I understand that you can see as much as 16 RWHP, although I hear that is somewhat debatable. :p

I thought that is where I am supposed to pour the new oil after an oil change. No wonder my Viper is sounding a little funny these days.

Hey Superbar...you know we're just having a little fun here. I hope we haven't stopped you from comin' on here and asking questions. That is what this website is all about and everyone of us has gotten ridiculed for asking a question that most others know, but that's how you learn!!! Like my grandfather always said..."If you don't learn something every day...it's a wasted day". And I learn something every day on this site.
