Sorry to heard about your accident, at least nobody got hurt. It has been cold and rainy the last few days, where did it happen and original tires?

I hope you are able to keep you friendship intact. Terrible situation to be in, for both of you. It's one thing to be hit by a complete stranger.

CarFax is too if'y. Some shops report & some don't. I think if you talk to the shop and let them know the repair is "cash" and not an insurance claim - meaning you write the body shop the check and handle the claim and money part with your insurance company (submit the estimates and negotiate with the body shops - don't let the body shop & insuarnce talk) then it will most likely keep your CarFax clean. You will also notice they will treat you much better as a cash customer than one with an insurance company in the middle. I usually get the front clip on our daily drivers repainted every 18 months or so because of all the rocks on the roads down here - all out of pocket a voluntary. Funny thing is the body shop I use does work that makes the factory paint look cheap. If there is not any "structural/frame" damage then reapir it. Twisted frames are a different situation & unless your sitting on a very rare Viper then you're probably better upgrading to a Gen 4 (if the frame is tweaked)

If it truely is your "baby" then keep her, patch her up and enjoy her as you always have. Don't be scared of repaired cars. If your Viper was 50 years old it would be called "restored" and worth 10 times as much! Think about that next time you see a $100k muscle care from the `60's. In order for it to be a $100k car it is either preserved in the Smithsonean or has been "rotesseried".

Good luck!

Warfang: PLEEEEEEEASE don't compare newborns to cars...even if they ARE our precious VIPERS...no, they're not human~! DUDE! ~juli

I wasn't equating a newborn to a Viper. I was using an exaggerated and easily visualized example to drive home a point... which is his friend's disregard of something precious that was handed to him by a supposedly good friend.

You know... when a mom pulls the "If your friends jump off a bridge..." example. Is she equating going to the mall to teenage suicide?

Well said, but when are we gonna play some tennis? :D

Hey... you said you were gonna PM me when you get here. I thought you were just chicken. :p

Besides, it's raining like all heck now... unless you wanna go at it in the wet with a racquetball. Been there done that.

Sorry to hear about your car, that totally sux.

As far as what to do, I would have had to hire a good lawyer and try to explain the body to the Police.

Hm, that is the thing, the guy is willing to claim his insurance if he does that why would I need to claim my insurance?

Please post your VIN# so we know which yellow Viper to avoid if it shows up for sale.

Wow that *****. I have not even had the chance to drive my car. I have a very short list of who will be able to drive my Viper. THERE IS NO ONE ON IT!

Carfax is very spotty. My company car has been hit three times and in the shop, it shows zero Carfax reports.

Most people don't realize that if you allow someone else to drive your vehicle, it is still your insurance that covers it. Even if he files with his insurance company, they will defer it to your insurance company to handle. I believe if you say the vehicle was driven without your knowledge (i.e. stolen) it's different. Something to chew on for people that let others drive their car :(

Kind of varies from state to state I think. I have heard of similar situations where insurance policies did not cover the damaged caused because the "friend" was not an authorized driver on the policy.:crazy2: In the event you do have a legit. claim....you'll probably have to fight with the insurance company regardless. They love to collect the premiums....but seldom enjoy paying-out!;)

I would be happy to help you with a bodyshop that will do a proper repair or work with the insurance company to properly compensate you for a total loss.

ET: You are correct, you WONT know til later on. Suspension damage can translate to frame damage

FYI - ASC was the company who provided the OEM Yellow panels for your car. When ASC went bankrupt, PartsRack was the successful bidder for 100% of the body parts for the 'would be' 2007 50+ Vipers that were never born, as well as hundreds of the leftover 06 panels. Good news is:

We Bought some YELLOW PANELS! I know we have a rear fascia, and may still have a rear quarter in original factory-painted yellow. We offer a 50% discount off MSRP on primed panels, and a 30% off painted panels. But dont tell the insurance adjuster that info just yet...maybe we can absorb your deductible ?

Dont be in a rush to settle,,,,discuss the D.V. of your damaged-repaired Viper. It is a true financial loss, which might be recovered here. Maybe from your friend, if NOT from your own insurance. Call me for more info.

The 3pc Forgeline can 'probably' be repaired with a new outer....we'll send it to Forgeline for assessment and repair.

My insurance covers it even if my 15-year takes the car out and totals it.[/QUOTE

Then you obviously have a good policy, but I certainly wouldn't test that theory.;)

I'm just sharing my experience in regards to this situation.
I have Farmer's. My agent and insurance company, bent over backwards to take care of me in the past when my Prowler was total'd.

I could be wrong, but I think a lot of it depends on your agent, and how they write the policy.

I'm with Allstate, same agent for 30-years.
Even though the policy on both of our sport cars says no driver under 25, my agent said they would pay the claim. And no my 15-year old who does have a permit, doesn't drive either one.

I agree with you 100%. My only point was......technically....they don't have too. I for one have an agent, much like you, that will bend over backwards to help.

I hope you didn't take my last comment seriously. I was only joking with you about, "testing the theory," in regards to your 15 year old.;). Regardless, I think we'd both be covered if something like that were to come about. But you have to admit....insurance agents (much like bankers) are much more lenient on customers with numerous accounts as I'm sure you have.:rolaugh:
