I just had my side sills repainted. I decided to replace the heat shields. The old ones were obviously the original pieces. They were really big and "wrapped" around the muffler and cat. They were basically burned up so I decided to replace them. The new ones are not nearly as large as the originals. Does anyone know how those are secured? Do you just sandwich the heat shield between the painted cover and the exhaust system or is there some trick to it? Thanks.

The original ones are glued to the inner sill.
Where did you get replacements? My understanding is that Dodge does not sell the seperately from the sill itself.

I went to the local dodge dealership and looked on their diagram in the computer. It clearly showed the outer(painted) cover as one part and the aluminum heat shield as the other. I just ordered the two shields by themselves. They list for about $500 each.

That's interesting, I never heard of them sold separately.
What do you mean the originals wrapped around cat and muffler? Totally around? Old ones were rivited with aluminum barrier and new ones are glued with high temp silicone.
Before you install those, replace those cats with highflow if they are stock. You're only asking for problems.

are you sure that the diagram was not showing the shields that go between the exhaust and the car frame?
There are 2 shields were the sills are,one is glued to the sills and cover the outside,top and bottom of the exhaust,the other one cover the inside.
