I have had a couple of posts about heating my garage and people keep saying the easiest way is to get a dehumdifier that will remove moisture and heat the garage at the same time. How can a dehumdifier HEAT a garage?

Your defroster in your car takes humid air, cools it to condense the moisture and dry it out, and then blows in on the glass. The heat taken out of the air is put into the atmosphere via the heat exchanger in front of the radiator. A dehumidier has the elements of an air conditioner (evaporator, compressor, condensor) except the hot air isn't sent out the window, it's left in the room being dried. The net effect of cooling one chunk of the interior air (to condense the moisture) and heating another chunk of air (to move the heat) is not 100% efficient and will eventually heat the room. That's why there's an electric bill!

I'm not sure how your electric vs gas bill will pencil out in your area w/ a dehumidifier. No matter how you choose to heat the garage, I still would rec using even a small dehumidifier to remove moisture. Good wall insulation will also help tremendously.
How warm do you want the garage to be? 55,65,75 degrees?

Kenneth, A dehumidifier will not operate in temps below 65deg. The coil will eventually freeze up so no air will circulate through it. Rick
