Just curious as to how the vipers would compare in HP and 1/4 mile times from the first year to present. Notice that this is my first post and I feel its a relative question so I know how to compare to the various vipers.

Thanks,

Matt

Welcome to the BBS, Matt. As a "rough guide" to hp, I would say 92-95 quoted as 400 hp, 96 RT/10 at 415 hp, 96 GTS at 450 hp, 97-01 Vipers at 450 hp with 99 ACR (NOT sure about 2000 ACR) quoted at 460 hp. Others can fill in more info, correct my recollections, clarify ACR power, and give 1/4 mile times.

Thanks for the information. I have always been fond of the early models and didn't know if they were capable of keeping up with the new ones.

Thanks,

Hey, Matt, good to see you over here. I'll keep it quiet over at the CF that you were saying good things about Vipers... ;)

I would add to the above that the Gen I cars (400 bhp claimed) run the 1/4 in mid-to-upper-12's (stock). The Gen II cars run in the lower 12's. As Bob indicated above, the driver matters, of course, as does the track condition.

Bottom line is that the Gen I cars are pretty evenly matched with a Z06 in the 1/4, though the Z06 has an advantage off the line due to the gearing....

One more point Matt...while I personally prefer to drive a GTS on road trips (and certainly agree that they have evolved well, shedding some of earlier model's quirks), whenever I drive our 95 RT/10 or 96 RT/10...I'm impressed with the amount of feel these cars have and how much FUN they are to drive...to me, more FUN than an ACR for back road type situations...where one can get the "feeling" of performance at less actual speed. On track situations are certainly a different issue. Any way you choose to go, these cars are a BLAST.

I don't need permission from the cf to be here. But thanks again for looking out for my best interest. I always have had something for the vipers.

Steve,

I fully understand what you mean. After all, driving is feeling. I used to get such a great feel from driving my old Alpha or the Jensen-Healey.
Besides, if I wanted to beat a new viper I would drive my supercharged vette. ;)
