How do you guys launch your high H.P. S/C\'d cars ?

Just bought a DLM car and wondered what rpm's you guys launch your cars at the track. I know each car is different depending on tires and HP, but wanted an idea. My nitrous car I think is different since I don't spray until second gear.

I think they rev it to around 3000, and feather the clutch engagement. The rpms keep the car from bogging, and feathering the clutch controls the wheelspin? I think you need a special clutch.

For a relatively stock car like mine, I just let it bog off the line, since I'm no good at controlling the wheelspin with the throttle, and don't wanna waste my clutch. Don't drag race anyway (you can tell, huh?), and prefer the road courses.

I hold the revs to 1500 and work the clutch and the throttle moderately fast - like I was at a stoplight and doing street racing. I don't get to full throttle until the end of 1st gear or the mid point of 2nd gear depending on how slick the track is. I get no bog, but traction is always a problem.

Get some good tires, BFG's and heat them up and let her rip. Bring up to 3000rpm and ride the clutch out of the hole. Should be good for 1.6x 60' time or better.

With BFG's, I found that ~3000 or ~3500 I could launch hard. @4200 forget it... lots o' spin.

I was trying to find the sweet spot for my 850rwhp beast... and I'm pretty sure 3500 was it.

Tire pressure will also have something to do with it. I thik I was at 18psi on those runs.

Good luck!

Thanks for the help. I'll keep you posted when I get to the track. It's a beautiful 9 degrees here today. Hopefully in the next few weeks it will get above 30 and I will go.

Will the stock clutch hold with slipping it out of the hole ?

I never had any trouble with 700hp slipping. But when I made the move to 850, we replaced the cluth with a non-stocker.

I have no idea if it would have held...

Twin Vipers

Launch is depending on your Tires! Alot of people will launch at high RPM sometimes it is better to hold them RPM down. Track COnditions and Tires make the difference here.

Clutch Many High HP cars run the stock clutch with no problems. I think alot of it is your driving skill and how many times you take the car to the track. couple times hear and there your stock will be fine. more than that look into an aftermarket Clutch.

My clutch is the carbon / carbon. I don't recall who the manufacturer is, though.

No problem with drivability. No noise either.

David - FL isn't looking to promising. I just got word yesterday that I need to be at a work conference that weekend. And it isn't in the continental US. So I'll be (quite unfortunately) missing this event.

But I promise you that NOTHING will keep me from the KY event.

get a nice aftermarket clutch, nice drive shaft,a nice big rear end, and some slicks. then launch off of the rev limiter and lift the nose....atleast thats how us GM guys do it.

I doubt your launching the Camaro off the rev limiter.

I had a currie 9" in my TA with 3.73.

This weekend we'll see how the Viper Dana holds up....
