How do you jack up your GTS? Use puck or not?

I have done a search and know the basics like where to lift etc but was wondering what everybody uses to protect there side sills as it is pretty tight under there between the sills and the floors. With the size of my jack cradle it will probably hit one or another if I don't use a small block of wood or something. Does anybody use pucks or a piece of wood on your jack to protect the under side? I do have vette pucks and some 2 X 4 scraps around. Just wondering what everybody else does.

I took my tender off for a few days and my battery is dead. I knew it was going to need one soon anyway so I guess it is time to break down and pick up an Optima Red Top. I also searched battery threads and it seems everybody has different opinions on what is best. I have always had good luck with the Red Tops so unless somebody can come up with some compelling reason why I shouldn't go with that the Optima a Red Top it is. I am also open to suggestions. :dunno:

My low pro jack has a flat hard rubber cradle. No chance of it hitting. You can buy one at Harbor Freight for 10 bucks. Harbor Freight Tools - Quality Tools at the Lowest Prices

As far as batteries go...I just use a battery from Advance Auto parts. The specs were much better than the stock Mopar battery. There is lots of discussion on the Optimas and some of the hassles involved in using them. Spending 2-3x a normal battery price doesn't click with me.

I use a 1/2 block of hard wood cut so the grain of the wood goes from door to door and not front to rear. (it splits front to rear) The block is 5/8 inch thick and rests on the rubber pad of my floor jack. Of course I start jacking at the jack locations near the tires and the block is slightly longer than the horizontal part of the loop at the jacking point and the edge of the block is next to the vertical extending portion of the loop, with the horizontal part of the loop supported by the wood, if that makes any sense.

I drive up on a 4 flat pieces (2 inches high) of wood before jacking.

The wood pieces are bevelled the side I drive up and have a stop at the other side.
Self made and wide enough for the 335/345 rear tires.

The problem with using an optima are the top posts on the battery. The battery top posts won't fit under the frame. (Don't try and cut the posts off and seal them with epoxy...doesn't work, ruins the battery.) I used a red top and laid it on it's side. It is gel filled and shouldn't make a difference. I have had the battery that way for two years w/o any problems.

Well, that is a pretty good reason not to go with the Optima. I guess I will just go with a Mopar battery instead. :2tu:

I have an Optima redtop and it does fit under the frame. The negative posts touches, but not the positive, plus I kept the plastic cover on both posts to be safe. The problem is, they're horrible batteries. I'm on my 3rd one in 1.5 years! They have a 3 year free replacement warranty from the original date of purchase, so I'll just keep swapping it out for a new one each time the thing dies for the next 1.5 years and then NEVER AGAIN! Do not go with an Optima!
