How do you say "No" Politely

Only had car for a week & some of my buddies want to take it for a spin, these are car guys so they think they can drive anything. I don't Hotrod it & I dang sure don't want anybody else to do it. How do you say "NO" Politely.Thanks

Haha why do you have to be polite? Just say no, if they get offended, who cares. Offer to take them for a spirited ride instead. Only person that's ever driven any of my cars is my father, and that's because he knows how much time I put into my builds, and because he really respects the power.

Man this didn't take long to get some response, I think I Kinda get the idea now! I think it's pretty obivious if someone wants to drive it, what their intentions are. I had read on another post here where a guy just got his & let his father drive it & he hit a pole.

I would only let my father drive mine since he drives like a grandpa (he owns a vette too). Actually I am surprised that he has never asked to drive it yet.

But then again if a friend had a car with similar power I would let him drive it as long as I knew he would treat it with respect. If they don't just say no. Who cares if you are polite or not, you don't want them to wreck your car.

I thought you would get a kick out of this, yesterday I was waiting for my smooth tubes & s&r filters to come in (had to sign for them) but when the Fed-Ex driver was leaving he said Nice Viper & I have a 911 Carrera right beside it, but he didn't mention it. lol

I try to make it a little funny by smiling and saying...'Ahhh negative.'...and then explain that these cars get wrecked all the time by drivers that aren't familiar with them. I used to use the 'my rubber is 10 years old' fact, but I just got new rubber a couple of months ago, so that one's out the window .

I look at them in the eye and say "No" in a firm manner. I don't really care if people take it personally or not as their lack of self-esteem is not my concern.

Look at your driver's side door jamb. It'll be there.

Back on topic. A simple, "No," will suffice. If they continue to be pushy about it, tell them to buy/rent their own. Or you can just ask them if you can try out their wife/girlfriend.

I was in a tough spot with this, once. A neighbor/friend of mine purchased a brand new SRT10 Truck. Back in 2004, when these things were HOT,HOT,HOT. I mean, he had one of the first ones EVER. Ordered it and all. He pulls up with the Temp. tag on the the window, and about 25 miles on the odo., (literally on his way home from the dealer picking it up) and throws the keys to me. Says "take it for a ride". So, I did...... LOL. It was fun, and I appreciated the gesture, and the trust he had in my driving.

Fast forward, a few years later, and I got my 2006 SRT10 VOI9... He is out front like a kid in a candy store, eyes wide open, drooling watching it pull off the truck. So, yes.. I threw him the keys... For a few reasons.. He offered/insisted I take the SRT for a spin, and #2, he never asked... I offered. And third, this is an experienced driver. He's had 10 second Gn's, Viper truck, harleys,etc..

He took the car down the road for about 1-2 miles, turned around and came back. That was it. no speeding, tire spinning or anything. I had my eyes on him, though. LOL.

So, it really depends on the situation. But I would do it again, the exact same way...

I'm lucky in the fact that I've driven at least three other members cars, but they allow this for several reasons, first, I own two myself, second, I respect that it IS NOT MY CAR and I drive it accordingly, and lastly, I respect my friends property and would never do anything to jeopardize the car or the friendship. That being said, I've let several of my friends drive my vipers, but I ride with them, and I know they aren't about to do anything stupid with it because they are afraid of the power, they drive like grandmothers. I also let another friend of mine drive it, but he's a police driving instructor so I don't worry as much--he's taken it out solo. So far, no problems of any kind with any of this. HOWEVER......I would NEVER let joe **** the rag man off the street drive the car since I know they'd probably wreck the thing and kill themselves in it. So, in answer to your original question, I just tell people that my insurance doesn't allow anyone but me to drive the car. If they complain about that, I just tell them there's no ****ing way they're driving the car!!

TOOOO many wrecked Vipers because owner didn't say NO. Friends wreck 'em. Salesmen wreck 'em. Viper tech's wreck 'em. Body shops wreck 'em....

Noooooooooo, What Happened? I've only had mine 6 days, WHY do people say these are not daily drivers I haven't been back in the Porsche since I've gotten it.

That ought to do it.

I agree with the above comments. I tell people that want to drive my car that too many of these get wrecked in the first 100 miles due to power, close pedals and no traction control to assist when things get out of hand. I have also been able to drive about half a dozen friends Vipers, but they know I drive like an old lady.

I've let good friends drive it with me in it. It usually just scares them and they never ask again.

But normally I don't drive theirs they don't drive mine.

Thats what I usually say, But one said that His Insurance covers anything he drives. But I still didn't do it.

No valet has ever, or will ever, set foot or *** in my car for any reason.
