I'm wondering how much the price of license plates varies state to state..

I guess year matters ; the license plate fee may partially depend on what year your car is in some states.

So mention what year your car is if you choose to answer :)

Year dosen't really matter. I believe it was $44.00 for two years in Louisiana.

Do you mean the plates themselves or just the the regisration?

The flat plates cost $30 (for the "printed" letters/personalized type, no stamping done anymore - etc)

For the year 1999 model,
2 year registration cost $130
+ I.M. testing $45
+ certificate $10
Total = $185

Geez, I want your registration!
Nevada charges you for the plates themselves, and then the registration charge.
My plates were approx $1010 last year, $45 for the basic plate, $40 for the "Las Vegas" plate I wanted, and another $60 to have it personalized. The rest was the "registration/privledge" fee.
At least we don't have any state income tax.....

Okay, I guess I meant the registration. Michigan's renewal registration for my 2002 would have been $327...

Re: How much do you pay for lic. plates?

In Kansas we pay personal property tax when we renew our plates, which decreases as the car gets older. So the Viper (2003) was $1400 this last year in taxes plus another $50 or so in plate renewal (personal plates). My '04 Denali will be around $600 in August (my renewal month) and then go down from there. At least we don't have any annual inspections or emissions checks...

Just renewed my registration online for my 2001 GTS in OHIO.

Keep current plates $39.81
Get new plates $44.81

No e-check in my county, so $39.81 got me a new sticker for my existing plate. (Good for 1 year)

I knew I should move out of state...

I pay $360 with personal plate for my '99 in CA.

And thanks to Governor Arnold that is a discount from $950 I would have had paid if the law not been reversed last year.

I was feeling bad about my Nevada registration costs until I read Sam's! I just paid mine today and it ran $687 (no personalized plates here).

D!ck!
;)
Mine should be a good bit less this year, just have to renew the personal plate.
I'm hoping to be in the $700 range, LOL!
