Yesterday I was out in my new to me 97 GTS. I recently had the cars to tator's and got all my fluids changed and everything checked out. Yesterday,
I was hotdogging and hit it from a roll in first gear, tacked to 5K and nailed
second. When I hit second, where there should have been a chirp, there was
a bang in the rear, First thought was the spare was loose and banged against the well, second thought was, I broke a shaft in the back, but the car is
driving perfectly and I continued on my journey. I drove it today and everything seems fine. Any ideas.....IT was a loud BANG!.....But everything
seems A.O.K. Thanks, Joe.

did you have the rear end fluid changed when you changed fluids?

Might be a good idea to change it if you didn't... might be the gears ?

at least it is still running okay....

Yes, I had the rear fluid changed also. I'm sure the right fluid was
added and also the additive. It was Tator's so I have no worries..

my 2001 has done that whith an agressive downshift. I never worry until sonething doesnt drive right. The viper makes lots ofnoises. It could have been your exhaust flexing and hitting the bottom of the car.

Yes the recalls been done. Chuck checked it AOK. I really am liking the
wheel hop answer. I am a newbie and unfamiliar with all the car's quirks
so far. But, Man I love it......

I believe you briefly broke the sound barrier. It happens often. You'll get used to it. :D

Several headers hit the frame,my balengers hit on pass side,Hard downshift(rarely do)and sometimes hard 2nd i'll hear a bang that scare the crome off a trailer hitch.Gonna try changing out the motor mounts!

TOOOFST and SapphireGTS...Drivers side motor mount is the culpret...not the bracket, or the heat shield...

Here's the left side part number: 4642617
Lists for $46.20

Left side (drivers side) of motor raises under load and tears the insulator portion of the mount...allowing enough play for the header to hit the frame...The one I replaced last year...

my car did that crap ONCE, but could never get it to repeat. I inspected it until I was pulling my hair out, never found the cause.

The front or the rear "bang"??? You cannot see this tear (front bang) unless you remove the mount...It's cake if you are on a lift...
