Fast traffic is my only excuse....... I tried to bolt into traffic 1st gear, 4 lanes. started sliding in first so quickly shoved into second, still no help, went drifting left then right then lost it 180%. I could only put my hand up in a jester to the traffic I stopped like thanks for not killing me. but sorry for fucn up at the same time. My only excuse is the recent cold weather and was not ready for the power. and yes could not handle it. I guess sit happens. anyone else fukk up like that.

I think most of us had something like that happen to us before. You should be thankful that you were just embarrassed and that you didn't wreck your car or hurt yourself or someone. I know the feeling. Once you lose control, it just feels like you are on ice and can't do anything about it.

I suspect it happens more often than people admit this time of year as the weather turns colder.

I know I've felt the car begin to slide under similar conditions (usually when tires are still cold and trying to pull out quickly while turning) but have been fortunate to catch it in time.

It's a good reminder to the rest of us to be more careful with the cooler weather now.

Same thing with me.
The first week took my buddy for a spin. We turned left onto a staightaway and I got on 1st gear too much before I had staighten out and we slid sideways thru 4 lanes of traffic. He thought it was all planned, but I was about to crap!

I am really looking forward to some cold or even cool weather.... my car will enjoy breathing the "power air" and I will feel frisky too.

next time take ur foot off the gas and turn into it.

do that and snap oversteer is gonna own your ass. Come out of it gradually.

Exactly, same with shifting, putting the clutch in, or any other change in forces and weight transfer. Feather the throttle and countersteer. You may not like the direction you're going but you can't change that much once you've lost traction. Still, it beats the alternative--heading the same place but in an uncontrolled spin--like you did. Glad you came out okay.

That's correct. Feather the throttle and countersteer.

I agree, never completely lift off during a slide/spin.

I run SCCA national and in a spin you back off throtle that will bive the tires some bite ....braking will lock up the wheels, however you will then be going stright, but with possibly a sideways or backwards attitude.

I have two Skippy's (Skip Barber), one PANOZ and three SCCA schools. Take the Skippy car handling school they use Vipers.

I thought it was: When in a spin both feet in (brake and clutch) When in a slide both feet out (no brake no clutch)
Seems to work for me!!

I have never "spun out" by accident, but have slid way more than I wanted to a few times...Almost everytime on cold tires....I say the words "Cold tires" out loud to myself now as I start out just to remind me....
So far so good
(me knocking on wood)
Cheers,

How useful do you guys think a C5-style active handling system would be on vipers?

Very useful and VERY unwanted. It would destroy the entire concept of the Viper. You must master the car, not let the computer take over every time your lack of skill 'may' hurt you. This is the only true way to learn, grasshopper.

Imagine a 60's 427 Cobra with traction control, Formula 1 launch and cornering control and paddle shifters......what a joke.

Sounds good to me, maybe Superformance can incorporate some of that :)
