These freakin' cars only started selling a few months ago and they are in the 9’s already jeez.......... Heads/cam/headers/torque converter/150 shot/stock rims with dragradials.

That’s only like $4-5K in total mods. I thought the GTR's were quick (which they are), but it takes some fairly decent $$ invested in those to get them to run in the 9's.

Impressive. I loved the way it shifted. And the sound idling at the line - an eight cylinder symphony. I have never owned a GM product but I have to give the vette engineers credit where credit is due. They put together one hell of a drivetrain that obviously can be modded for reasonable dollars to produce a monster.

Pretty sick, especially the sound!
To be honest, if they weren't going to be so commonplace in the next year, I'd be all over the new Vette. I actually saw one by the house the other day that looked incredible! I don't know if it was all factory, but it was white with a CF rear spoiler (just a turn up) and front splitter. It looked wider than I had anticipated, almost like what I would expect the C7 Z's to look like.

Yep that the reason why I pulled the trigger on a C7. Looked real hard at the Gen5 dealer was going to to sell me a GTS for $85 with my 11 BMW Z4 as a trade witch only has 4k miles. Picking up my Vette Monday C7 3LT Z51 $69k and still keep the BMW. PFadt already has a tune 20 RWHP 33 TQ only $399. Still keeping my 04 Viper too.

85k for a Gen V GTS?

With my 2011 BMW Z4 in the deal. Paid 72k for that car and it only has 4k miles. GTS or TA was 120k. There is so many options for the C7. I ran the half mile and Vengence racing had a C6 that ran a trap speed of 169mph. I hope they release something soon for the Gen5 owners.

I've already sold more sets of wheels for the C7 Corvette, than I have for the Gen V Viper, too.

This is the result you get when GM supports the aftermarket community. Free marketing and buzz on their product, as the horsepower pros begin tweaking them further. Late Model Racecraft are local to me, they work on my GM vehicles. GM sent them bare cylinder head cores to experiment with and do porting on, over a month before the cars even came out. They also shared the cam dimensions and info. So, LMR already had parts waiting for the C7's to finally arrive.

Take notes, SRT. Sure would be nice to be getting some free marketing from consumers out setting records, wouldn't it?

I've tweeted Ralph about this and would love if others did the same! Gen 4 has been out for 6 years and it's still handicapped by its controller! Part of the weak gen 5 sales is this crap that's frustrated a boat load of us owners!

You can't even find one on the lot to sit in or test drive now. Dealers can't even give you a lead time on an order.

Tony has touched on this point a few times now in the numerous threads.... I think it is one of the most overlooked issues... GM supports aftermarket, while SRT has not.

Why bother with a vette if what you want is speed and power? For 25k-40k, you could buy an old fox body, throw in a turbo lsx in it, and tear up the track runnning low 9's high 8's all day on pump gas. Its nice people want to buy a 60-70k car and then mod it, but whats the point? One could say you could buy a new gt500, install this mod and that mod on it, and wax the new vette. We could play this game all day if you want.

In the end, the new vette is still hideous. In two more months, there will be some many new vettes on the road they will blend in like all other vettes.

After reading through pages and pages of opinions I think the single most important issue holding the Gen V back is this. No support. No tuning.

I respectfully disagree. The C7 has a very exotic look in person and is in no way hideous IMO. I've never been a Vette fan, but I am now. I hate Vettes except this one. Also, there is a lot more to the C7 than speed. That's a lot of car for the price as many have said. Not taking away from the new Viper--just giving the Vette its props.

Yep, that's my take along with all the bad press. SRT wanted new owners and the bad press is hurting that while the lack of user-friendliness is keeping a lot of past Viper owners away. As someone pointed out earlier, the Gen IV is still not user-friendly from a mod standpoint even now. So, SRT had a bad reputation in this area even before the Gen V release. Wake up already, SRT. They have done the same thing with the SRT Challenger. Arrington is the only one who has codes for the 392... Whoever is behind this decision should be shown the door.

Okay, that is a sweet sounding car, but if you think 4k is gonna get you in the 9's your seriously dreaming.

From ACRucrazy:

"I am not going to add up what it cost, but from my understanding it had new heads, cam, american racing headers, no cats, STOCK mufflers, 150 shot, torque converter and drag radials. Tune?"

All of a sudden, it is much less impressive ...

403 whp stock, 470 whp heads/cam, 503 whp heads, cam, headers, no cats, 668 whp heads, cam, headers, no cats, torque converter 150 shot.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQWiAQTjFcw

I said I wasn't going to add it up... but...

Heads/cam package is $3600 + S/H
C7 Heads/Cam Parts Package:
LMR Proprietary CNC ported Cylinder Heads
LMR Custom Grind Camshaft with VVT/AFM
Chromoly Pushrods
LMR custom phaser limiting kit
Head Bolts
Head Gaskets
Water Pump Gaskets
Front Cover Seal
Crank Bolt

You must be registered for see images

Kooks headers without cats $1750 or $2450 with
305/35/19 Mickey Thompson slicks on stock wheels $750

So right there you are at $6100 + 150 shot + torque converter & labor if you pay to have it done. You are well over $7,000 on this package.

Do you guys believe Gilles' quip about FIAT and Ferrari may have had some credence, and that is why they haven't released any of Mopar performance parts? I know it's a stretch, but Mopar announced a full compliment of go-fast goodies (ECU, headers, exhaust, coil-overs etc.) last year at SEMA. None of it ever materialized. Perhaps FIAT put a kibosh on the release of the Mopar parts.

Also, it was stated on another thread that Mercedes established the deal with the supplier that currently owns the code for the ECU. That was two owner groups ago. I find it hard to believe that 1. SRT has agreed to continue to be locked into this agreement to their own detriment. 2. They cannot find another supplier who is willing to support the aftermarket. I'm probably way off, but it makes you wonder.
