Okay, that is a sweet sounding car, but if you think 4k is gonna get you in the 9's your seriously dreaming.

Regardless of what it costs, it's just the fact that this car has only been out for a month or two and it's already doing all of this!! While our gen 4 that's been out for 6years still has a locked pcm! *** is that?

Wow. Around 7k and you have a 9 sec time slip with these C7s. The Viper needs some aftermarket love stat. Man, even NOS sticker would throw a CEL on the G5 much less a heads/cam setup. SRT help the snake out please.

So for about $65-70K you can have a brand new 9 second car... Amazing... I will say that 4,500 stall speed on the street is ludicrous...

Sometimes the simplest explanation is the correct one. The simplest explanation appears to be that SRT grossly underestimated the marketing importance of being able to EASILY and FOR A REASONABLE PRICE mod both the Gen IV and the Gen V, as was the case with the Gen III, during the planning and development phases of each and locked itself into its current cunnundrum by failing to do so. Now, at this stage, with sales so low, I do not see how any sensible Chrysler bean counter could be convinced that incurring additional costs to put out mods for such a small population of cars makes any sense. And for many of us with modded cars, getting the new car without any assurance that we will be able to mod it right away to our liking, like we did with the Gen III, is a deal killer.

PS. This is particularly puzzling in view of the fact that SRT publicly acknowledged that they built the motor to take some boost in recognition that many members like to supercharge their Vipers. Great potential with no reasonable cost way to tap it. (Viper Specialty is working on an interesting and promising kit but it will not be a recalibration of the existing controller kit like the basic Gen III Paxton kits and Dan said he is focusing on the Gen IV kit first.) Why didn't SRT send the engine out to a few aftermarket outfits like Corvette obviously did to develop mods? Your guess is as good as mine.

First of all I really don't think Fiat cares about building parts for a car that isn't selling. That's the bigger picture, and that's the price you pay for driveing an exclusive or low production vehicle. This isn't rocket science or higher math. The new Vette is a beautiful fast car that uses the same power plant that the entire truck line uses as well as other cars and SUV's. if Chrysler did that, 99% of this audience would be crying that its not a V-10. So the bottom line is that the only way Chrysler can have a positive outcome here, is to build the fastest car out of the box. That's not gonna happen so, there you go.I say go buy a Vette, because all your whining isn't going to make one damn bit good. Chrysler doesn't car about cars that were sold years ago, what business sense does that make..

I finally got to sit in a c7 today. I couldn't find anything not to like. It feels lower and sleeker than a Viper but the exterior while beautiful just lacks the Wow factor of the GenV. Looks like it will be months of waiting and a markup for anyone that wants a Z51 car now. I guess competition is good supposedly:dunno:

Gen V headers are in the works (this is not SRTs problem or fault) Gen V doesn't really need a new cam or head, the heads flow great, but if someone wants them ported I am sure Greg Good Heads can take care of you.

So really someone just needs to grab some headers, exhaust, BBG clutch throw some spray on the car and get some Mickey Thompson drag radials and I am sure you will have a 9 second car. All for the same $$$ someone put into that C7.

I hope that you are correct. Based on what Jack and Nine Ball experienced during both of their initial drag strip outings, it appears that the Gen V controller may have more protective algorithms in it than the Gen IV controller had ( increased EPA requirements) and that it is even more sensitive to simple mods than the Gen IV stock controller was. I remember people trying simple mods before the MOPAR "offroad"controller came out and that they all ran into problems. The Mopar controller solved them so that headers and a catback exhaust could be installed without a problem. HP increases of 65 HP or more were common. An offroad MOPAR controller was promised for the Gen V at VOI last year along with a bunch of other MOPAR upgrades they showed on a display board. So far, nada. The nada led me to the analysis I posted above.

What is more important to me is that it takes heads, cam, headers, torque converter to trap 127 mph, the same MPH the gen IV and V does stock. Sure it ran a 10.6, but did so with drag radials, a sticky track and a good 60ft. Yea that is impressive for an auto, but listen to that stall! Daily driver? No thanks.

Take the 60ft out of the equation on the street that near $6,000 in mods C7 will run door to door with a stock Gen IV / Gen V.

Toss some headers/exhaust on Gen IV or V and you should be trapping over 130mph on a good day. There are several IVs running around trapping 131, 132, 133+ with basic I/H/E bolt ons. Get a 1.40 60ft like that C7 and you should be damn close to a 9.999 time slip also. Without the spray..

You Viper guys are a class act; true automotive enthusiasts!

This is the reason I bought I C6 Z51 because they are so cheap & easy to mod. My 3LT was $58k out the door, and with another $5k, I was able to get more HP than a stock Z06 yet keep it very drivable. I get the whole, not as rare as a Viper thing, but I really don't mind.

I really like the Gen V Viper, but it is sad that SRT so bungled the delivery & aftermarket support for this vehicle. The fact that they had cars sitting on lots before going to sales with secured with deposits is insane.

As at least one vendor said, GM is very good at priming the aftermarket pump by keeping them in the loop early. HP Tuners 'hacked' the PCM months ago, and others like Pfadt now offer tuning services as well. This gets the modder crowd excited & drives sales for both GM & the aftermarket. Goodness all around.

Can't wait for the 01/14 Hi-Po announce of the C7.

I respectfully disagree. The C7 has a very exotic look in person and is in no way hideous IMO.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. While it looks fresh now, give it couple more months. I already drive by at least 3 of these a day on the weekends, and the look is already old. It still looks like the illegitimate child of a 3 way between a gtr, ferrari and a camaro. I came from the vette side. The only time a vette looks exotic is the 3 months before everyone else gets theirs. My only hope is that the z cars get a better look to them.

I share the same sentiment. The novelty will soon wear off when you start seeing three or four or more a day. One of my neighbors has one. Nice car.

This is a valid point. Look at the C6. Most boring looking sportscar ever produced. But people went monkeytits ******** for them when they come out.
Having said that i find the styling of the C7 to be what appeals to me. Looks like a goddamn space ship! Very cool. But at the end of the day there are more vettes than minivans on the road.

Haha, I was one of those guys. I bought one of the first C6's in Houston, a black on red Z51. Added supercharger/cam/headers. It went mid-10s back in 2006. Then the Z06 widebody came out and I was like ***???!!!

So I bought a Z06. And added a supercharger and headers. Fantastic cars.

I won't fall for the narrow-***** C7 again, knowing a widebody is coming out. Here is that old C6 back when they got a lot of attention. 2 yrs later, nobody even looked at it.

You listed $7,000 worth of parts, which was high and not needed. Most Gen IVs should trap 126, 127, 128 stock on a good day.

Let's try this:

$1900 - M&M headers
$1100 - Belanger exhaust currently on sale (regularly under $1400)
$0000 - Stock filter, or K&N replacement if you want to spend $50.
$1000 - Mopar PCM
$0600 - Ported lower from Greg Goods heads

So you are at $4600, you have room left over for gears, and some beverages. This list of mods the Gen IV should be trapping well above 130mph, same as that C7 with a 150 shot. What I have yet to see from any Gen IV is a 1.40 60ft with these kind of mods. The results? 10.4, 10.5, 10.6 ET because of it.

Or if you had to have Belangers, the complete Belanger setup is currently avail for $3500 without cats. Bringing your total to $5100. If you had to have the K&N Dual filter setup on top of that, sure add $500, Still only at $5,600.

If you had to have ACR-X headers for $2600 & Corsa exhaust for $1500 and the fancy K&N for $500 plus Mopar ECU for $1000 with ported lower for $600 you are looking at a total of $6,600

Ported Gen IV heads are not needed to run 130+mph. Many have reported 25hp from them, but many have trapped over 130 without the $4,000+ investment.

Yep, that's my take along with all the bad press. SRT wanted new owners and the bad press is hurting that while the lack of user-friendliness is keeping a lot of past Viper owners away. As someone pointed out earlier, the Gen IV is still not user-friendly from a mod standpoint even now. So, SRT had a bad reputation in this area even before the Gen V release. Wake up already, SRT. They have done the same thing with the SRT Challenger. Arrington is the only one who has codes for the 392... Whoever is behind this decision should be shown the door.

We have been working with ProCharger and Diablo for a couple years now and they can S/C and tune the 392 just fine, ours have all made 650-660hp;-)

We do not buy Vipers because we want bang for the buck. We buy Vipers because we want them. Not everyone can claim that. If I just wanted to go fast and cheap, I'd still be modding Fox body Mustangs and F-bodies.

I think we all no the volume in prod challenge really. This is why I push the mopar pkg option, the could offer kits like FRPP and others and not even worry about aftermarket. Tony's right, the point is we want the viper, hec otherwise we'd all be in a another forum by now. It kills me that I just spent $1400 to get a brown box that delivered 140hp to my door for my '14 GT500. 717rwhp result for 2 hrs work and less $ than a set of tires and I PASS EMISSIONS IN MD. Yea the last part is huge to me. I could spend a ton of cash to mod a gen4 or 5 but then in 2 yrs I'm effed in the A because of MD OBD scan. If I didn't like to tinker and personalize my cars I guess it'd be no big deal since the gen5 doesn't need more HP to set road course records, but the hobby is more than that to me. Personally I'm starting to really debate where I want to go in the spring with the car. I'm really hoping for some news from SRT that's more than yet another friggin shade of blue.

People say the aftermarket doesn't help sell cars. The C7, Mustang and any Honda is all the proof you need that indeed approximately 33% of all Car sells are aftermarket driven. Even the Lamborghini G gets more aftermarket love than the Viper. They can get an entire billet big bore block.

SRT, you want to move the Gen5 and make it a viable again. Add fully forged internals and unlock the ECU.

Then it would be nothing but a $15k TT package and these cars will easily lay down 800-1000rwhp. Without even any engine work (well...maybe valve springs and roller rockers).

SRT I'm your biggest critic, but info give you credit for overall a good car, the heads,diff and intake are quite good.

Try that on a gen 4. The loose pistons on stock power levels.
