I thought my car was really fast until yesterday

Yesterday was an awesome day for a drive with no real destination. Found some real cool spots to drive at speed. Cruising along at just under 100 down a hill approaching a nice known open spot and behind me coming over the hill a red GT40 comes up on me and goes by me like I'm backing up. I couldn't even get close to catching him. Are they really that much faster?

Ummmm..... Yes....

As an owner of both, I'd have to say a stock GT definitely has the edge over a stock Gen II.

But there is no question both are fast!

Stock to stock they are very close with the GT definitely having the edge.

That said the GT is VERY easy to make it unbelievably fast. All you need is a pulley and a tune and you will blow just about anything on the road away.

A GT is probably the only car I want/like more than a Viper GTS. Hopefully some day.

My dream garage, Ford GT, Viper GTS and a C6 Z06 or ZR1. (in that order)

My current garage, GTS, C5 Z06, Lightning and wifes 335i. I guess I really can't complain. :dunno:

Joe is being politically correct.

When I had the same mods as you, I dyno'd 432 at the wheels and a bone stock Ford GT dyno'd 537. Stock for stock, you would need to step up to a '08 to be at a comparable power and even then, it is impossible to catch someone on a flyby even if you are close on power unless you take it all the way to the top end.

A nearby Viper friend of ours has a 2005 Ford GT which is 723 HP to the back end via a 3.4L Whipple SC instead of the 2 point something it comes with. Throw in the Ford racing exhaust for good measure and I think most Vipers wouldn't want to go head to head. His 98 RT/10 has an 8 pound Roe on it as well.

None of it really matters. A Ford GT is not normally aspirated and the the Viper is. The Viper will always have more potential. Not to take anything away from the GT but the styling is a bit confused to me. Some of it looks great, while other aspects of it look like it emerged from the dark ages. Even so, it is a shame that the car is no longer in production.

Power is relative. What happens when an Underground Twin Turbo Viper flies by the GT? Maybe the GT owner would write a post on the Ford GT forum........."I thought my Ford GT was fast until yesterday......."

Stock vs Stock FGT will kick a GenI-II-III ass really bad. Now an 08 vs FGT...humm that would make for a good race(roll on) On the track, the 08 ACR would make the FGT feel some pain.

Mod for Mod, I'd take the 1585rwhp Twin Turbo Viper over the 1100rwhp FGT.

I think the FGT is a great vehicle but I am not sure how user friendly. One of my neighbors had one and sold it for the same reason that I did not buy one. There is NO space for any type of luggage other than a shaving kit in the front so you really cannot travel with it. I drive my cars and you can pack a whole lot of stuff in a viper.....enough for two weeks for two people if you pack correctly.
