Tore thru my Centerforce clutch during the TX2K11 weekend. Getting ready to install a new one, but won't be using the Centerforce dual friction, they ****. I am probably going to use the 6 puk, had great luck before with it and should never have switched it out, BUT I have had this disk for a while. Don't remember where it came from. Hoping someone here knows and if it will hold up to 800 HP:

Can anyone else chime in? I was planning on buying a new Centerforce clutch this summer. Has anyone else had bad experiences with them? :dunno:

Before I buy another centerforce, I will go with a Spec 3+. After this next gamble, I may go that route anyway. By the way, centerforce just uses a LUK pressure plate with added weights to apply more clamping force:

I mean, I heard they make a really good clutch. Did you just have a bad experience from driving the car hard a lot? I know that's no excuse, but I was just wondering? I'm obviously not going to be tracking my car at all, so I definitely want the most reliable clutch I can get if I'm gonna be dropping money on any clutch for that matter.

If you're going to just drive it on the street, stay with the stock LUK clutch. It will hold up to over 700 HP and will last. You can even do some track events. Mine lasted up to the point of me adding more Nitrous.........:D

I had the Centerforce on for less than 1500 miles before it was completely gone. I did take it to the track a lot, but figured it would have held up better. :(

I used the Centerforce set up in my Ram SRT-10 and was not impressed. Didn't hold up any better than stock IMO.

I have a spare set up for the GTS that I plan to install when my stocker everntually goes. I have an OEM Luk pressure plate and a 6 puck disk like the one pictured above. ;)

Well I was told it would be beneficial to upgrade to an Aluminum lightweight flywheel(Fidanza) and as an add on a Centerforce clutch. Considering the stock one is pretty heavy and my foot/leg tends to cramp up occasionally after periods of time when I'm in traffic or just driving in general. So I figured it would be a good upgrade for an overall better quality driving experience.

The disk you pictured above is NOT a SPEC disk. The "blueish" fins that hold the lining on look suspiciously flimsy...I think it might be a chinese disk.

We have had a lot of luck out of the SPEC stage 2+ clutches. They use a "hybrid" disk with Kevlar on one side and Semi-metallic lining on the other side. Engagement is nice, a little smoother than a 3+, and they will hold somewhere close to 1k hp.

....and a few VERY dissatisfied ones. Blew a brand new spec in two warm up laps earlier this month. I wouldn't buy another spec ever. Some say they're OK for drag racing but for street or road course use I've had nothing but problems.

Probably just goes to show that for every clutch out there, someone's had a bad experience.

The SPEC twin disk clutch for the viper is really nice, and for the price cant be beat. Got mine for just under $1400 and that includes a new flywheel and a clutch that is rated to 1400hp which can be upgraded to 1800hp or downgraded to 900hp with the use of different disc material.

Very minimal chater very smooth engagement for a twin disk, and it drops your clutch rotating mass by something like 40%.

Which SPEC clutch did you have? And what broke on it?

Is it safe to say to just stick with the stock clutch I already have in my 96 GTS? I haven't even hit 28,000 miles yet. So I'm assuming the clutch isn't even fully broken in yet. What would all of you do?

I was planning on buying the following:
Aluminum Lightweight Flywheel (Fidanza)
Centerforce Clutch Organic (DF985985)
Hydrolic Slave Cylinder

If you were getting a new aluminum lightweight flywheel, preferably fidanza, considering the labor you would be paying for the flywheel install, it just seemed to make sense to replace the clutch at the same time without really any extra labor. However, the clutch goes for around $600. So should I just save my money and only buy the Aluminum Lightweight Flywheel and not buy the centerforce clutch and keep my stock clutch? Also, when does the stock clutch usually need to be replaced anyway on average? Does anyone know from their own personal experience??

Use up your stocker.........they wont fail catastrophically, they'll let you know in advance. When it starts to slip, replace THE WORKS.
