idol drops to 100 or less rpm when stopping why?

Hi, I bought a 1992 viper no. 132 with 280 miles. It runs like new but sometimes when I come to a stop from driving the idol drops down and it actually died once. Anyone know what's causing this. Gas should be good. Gene

Drive the car. The computer has to "learn" your driving habits. No bull. Leave any Viper sit for long periods and it will run like crap for a day or two until the computer makes the adjustment.

Mine does that too. I just got used to it. It has never died however...just sort of skips a heartbeat (coming to a stop or close to it) and then comes right back to its normal idle level, about 400.

CHECK THE BATTERY!

The idol control sensor needs a battery that is maintaining a full current (excuse my lack of terms) for accurate controls. Even if the battery starts the car without a prob.. doesn't mean the battery is maintaining enough juice to keep this sensor working accurately.

Gene, You'll find that there are about 10 things that can cause this so it will just be a process of elimination. Mine only had 1,000 miles on it and it started. I tried a bunch of things with good suggestions from everyone. Mine turned out to be the IAC motor on the passenger side intake. Just two screws to remove it and two more to take it in half. Cleaned like crazy inside with sensor safe cleaner. I also removed the intake tubes and cleaned inside the TB's making sure there wasn't a ridge built up so they shut perfectly. Then resynched the cables. It has been perfect since.

All this has already been said, but I would top off the battery with a tender and sync the throttle bodies first.

HI, Thanks for all the advise. I'll put my tender on it. I noticed the gauge reading way toward the charging side like battery was low. I figured driving it some would also help. It's set for some time.

bring it over Gene, I will take a look at it for ya. The battery sounds about right and if it has the OEM original...it's time to replace it.

try putting your idol on your dash and check the idle under your hood.
