completely unload the springs, use the clamps if you have to to help unload. If you have the soft aluminum type clamps, don't use a socket wrench, use an adjustable. Take it slow and keep the clamps well greased at the threads.

Be advised that when you change ride heights, you are also changing the alignment, roll centers, handling characteristics and aerodynamic behavior of your car. I would definitely not suggest lowering your car 1/2" in the front and 1" in the rear. This will completely eliminate the factory "rake" of 1/2" from front to rear.

Further, unless you are getting the exact same spring rates that came on the car, you will be changing the relative roll stiffness on each end of the car, which will further change the handling characteristics.

If your goal is to simply lower the car for appearance purposes, consider all the other things you are changing before doing so.

If your goal is to improve handling, lowering the car will help, but I would recommend getting adjustable shocks with adjustable spring perches so that you can independently adjust the ride height on each corner, properly corner weight your car, then do a 4-wheel realignment. The adjustable shocks will help you fine-tune the handling after you've made all these changes.

Sorry for the late reply, the change is relatively simple and works quite well on the track as well as on the street.. I did the spring change on my own the only thing I have to say is use quality spring compressors use the safety clips, clamp the lower end of the shock into a vise, a pneumatic or electic socket wrench of the 300lb variety will save lots of work, take your time on your first shock after that it becomes obvious what to do..

After you've reinstalled your shock/springs (I used my stock Konis without a hitch)and --before you start driving around-- grab your service manual and head to a reputable shop to have the designheight/ride height set to factory less the 1" all the way around if you're using the Eibach 1" Pro kit then have the alignment reset.. Works like a charm and a huge improvement in
handling both on and off the track..
