Is It Safe To Patch A Viper Tire?

Just got back from driving and noticed a nail in the front passenger side tire. Could the dealer patch this? Also is it safe to do that type of thing in a high performance vehicle? This could be me just being overly worried as usual but I rather be safe than sorry. Thanking you all in advance.

I have 1 of my front tires patched. I ran over a nail the 2nd day I owned the car You should be ok, but I dont suggest any 150mph runs. But, sometimes adrenaline sets in and you forget all about that patched tire , so if you patch, remember its patched!

Any tire place can do this with a patch and plug fix. I have one on each of my rears, but I don't drive my car really hard and couldn't see spending the money on new tires, since mine had only 2k miles on them.

You'll get different opinions on this, but I haven't had any problems in the last year with mine.

That's a tough one! Most will say no!
I would patch from the inside, If, There were no sine of the steal cord being damaged.
Do you drive, say, over the speed limit? You might want to call Bobby Archer and see if he has a used tire that is close in age to your other tires.
Do Not install a Plug!

keith, i had a plug in my rear passenger tire for 1 1/2 years. and you know how i drive and i never had a problem. i do balance them at least once a year though if that matters...

dont sweat it, but a patch is only gonna be better.

I had my rear tire patched on my 2000 GTS. No problems for over 1000 miles and one or two autocrosses. I eventually had to change the tires because they were getting worn.

Yes it is safe as long as it's done properly.

As the otheres said- go with a patch from the inside.

I would not do it on my Viper - but then we have no speed limit.

A LOT of stress will be put on the TIRES...

And those small areas of contact are your life insurance.

Fix it with a mushroom plug not a worm. This is the recommended fix from the manufacture. I have fixed them this way and the guy I fixed it for has taken it well above 150mph. With the mushroom head on the inside it can't come out.

I have seen a rear tire blowing at 80 mph on a Viper and the guy could STOP the car without too much damage, except that the rear fender has been teared apart by the tire coming off and - of course - the rim was heavily damaged.

What costs a rear fender and a new rim?

Based on your driving style, you should be fine with a patch. This is also something that is very easy to do at home with a patch kit.

My tire was patched in 97/98 with around 5K miles on the odo and it's still on the car at 24K miles.

i had the worm in my tires for years and never had problems and you know how we drive tiger. worm should cost about $10 to do..

a tire place for $10 would of done the trik. where did you take it to? Lee Dodge?

haha. Merrick Dodge. Closest dealer with a good amount of Viper knowledge. Problem was many of the shops could not fit the wheels & tire on their machine. Had that problem before.

machine? take wheel of, plug it with a worm, put wheel back on. no machine needed. only if they took the tire off the wheel only then they would need a machine and still shouldnt cost $60. shold be more like $20 with patch inside the rubber
