It seems to be consistantly slow in the 11:00pm PDT to 12:30am PDT timeframe for me - around 60-120 seconds to load the main forum index, and about the same (with variances) for each thread. I'm pretty sure its not my internet connection - DSL reports shows I'm getting 1.3 MB down and 400 kb up.

Just another data point.

RAID the puppy for redundancy and tape backup once a week/month. Nothing here is life and death in the long run.

Good point, our backup routine was definitely overkill as we do have full raid, with redundant forth drive and a spare drive sitting in the wings if needed. The incremental backup only takes about 15 minutes, and is now setup at a time that should not interfere with overseas or mainland users.

We'll start looking into the second (West Coast: 11:00pm PDT to 12:30am PDT timeframe) datapoint.

The servers additional RAM arrived today, hopefully it will be installed tomorrow. The server will be down for 15-30 minutes while the RAM is being installed.

The additional memory is in. This should help a bit.

We are now working to eliminate what appears to be the root cause for the issue: "Persistant Database Calls".... basically like a partly line where nobody hangs up, and the phone circuit gets clogged.

Thanks, that's good news.

We have fixed the redundant calls on the database coming from the forums, two more programs are generating them, will need to wade through them at code level, so it will take the programmers a little bit longer.
