Time will tell.
When the newness wears off and the gotta be first guys have bought the question is will it sustain sales?
Will improvements from one year to the next make the previous year a dog you wish you didn't buy?
Or will they be on the lot in two years at discounted prices like every other generation has been.

Way to be positive as usual. :nono:
It will all depend on the entire experience that people get during ownership:
-Customer service needs to be enhanced. Treat us like the other top brands do so that we do not see a difference when we go to the Porsche or SRT dealer.
-Quality of the new car needs to withstand time and not be like the regular average american car where it starts falling apart after 3 years.
-Have qualified service and technicians that will treat the car for what it is: a semi exotic.
This will not be achieved overnight but will take time. I think many of us will wait to get feedback from the "gotta be first" guys to make the jump from another brand. For the current Gen III or IV owners, I understand your position of not wanting to pay $50K for just interior upgrades and a new look but that is the same for every car. If you bought a Ferrari 599 and would like to step up to a F12, you have to pony up the dough. The F cars do hold their value better but I am comparing the Viper to the top of the food chain which is not a bad thing.
I think that what we are experiencing is that the new breed of buyers envision this new Gen V to compete with "GT" cars and do not mind paying the money if it delivers what it promises. The ********* owners that want a bare bone car can still get one for a minor increase over the 2010 pricing. SRT has done a great job in my opinion to satisfy both groups.
Now it is up to some of us to make the jump (myself included) and buy one to make the Gen V a success and then SRT to stand by their word.:D

Very insightful.
That hasn't been writen and discussed a hundred times here ad nauseum.
As one of the leading cheerleaders for the Gen 5 I'm sure you'll be among the first to get your order in when the dealers open up the order books.

Why would they make the rear window upper piece black on this car? It looks odd when not in body color, like the yellow one has. Rather see it painted to match.

Sounds logical :)

I have one serious concern because I haven't seen the car in real, is the B/W better looking or the solid ones? I'm afraid that the B/W is too detailed and busy! :(

If you are concerned about the stripes being too busy I feel that this might only be the case with the multi louvered SRT hood.

Will the Gen V be built to order only or will they have fixed production targets? It could get real ugly if sales are slow and the cars pile up at the dealers again.

No, there really isn't a $20,000 increase in performance for the launch edition. Those cars are premium cars for those that gotta have the first ones, all black laguna leather, the wheels the color combo, the speaker system, etc. It's all part of THAT package. Ralph even said the 2013 model year is going to be a short one and as soon as the cars are sold and built, 2014 info will come along. The 'base' SRT Viper starts at $97,395. Wasn't the ACR in the $104k range? Even the original MSRP for a base 2010 was $90-91k. It has integrated aero, but not 1000lbs of downforce aero it's still more of a street car. I don't get this mentality that if the 2013 isn't faster than the previous ACR it's not worth jack. Let it be, let it be two-three seconds slower. All these other brands have bells and whistle cars for WAY more than $100k with the exception of a few, their all two seconds slower than a gen IV ACR at the Ring. We know that. So if the base gen V falls just behind the ACR but is ahead of those other brands, I say job well done and when it comes time to build a new ACR, SRT should have no problem sticking it up front to everyone else.

I notice it's easy to throw around dollar figure's when you have no stake in the game. Step up from your station wagon with the driver's stripe on it, and buy a Viper, any Viper. I'll be more inclined to listen then. Right now, not so much.

Comments from those there were there are quite a bit different ( and by the way that was a Stryker Red car done with the "Track Pack" ), as most thought the cars were beyond stunning. Interiors were to die for and the fit and finish, though on pre-production models is overal better than in past models. Spent hours with the Engineers and they all say things will be much different when the cars arrive as these are more for testing mechnical components than body alignment.

The refinement is definitely noticeable , even after a short drive, yet one can still feel once the throttle is applied that it is still a Viper!

I will not order a 2013 but may splurge for a 2014 (hoping this leaves SRT enough time to fix the minor bugs) but there are other cars in contention (R8V10 or Jaguar F type V8 coupe). I am following with much interest the feedback of the lucky ones that have sat in the new Viper but don't really care about your pessimistic NY "know it all attitude".

Anyone else not care for the Blue with white stripes? Just don't think it does a thing for the Gen V. Seems forced to try to resemble the Gen 2 GTS.

My opinion... genV is better without stripes.
I stood there for 10 minutes at voi trying to decide this very thing. I looked at it from every angle I could. The stripes take away from all the detail that's happening on the gts hood imho.
In fact, the center-piece at our table thursday night just happened to be a solid blue. Each table seemed to have a different paint scheme... I must say it looked really sweet in solid blue!

Yes I thought the Blue and White was my least favorite. I also think those five spoke shiny wheels did it no justice. I told the body engineer that the yellow was my favorite, especially because the rear of the car was all one color. It just looked better to me. I don't care for the strips myself. The yellow car with what looked like black chrome wheels was awesome. The engineer told me that everyone had differing ideas of what they liked, and they were happy with that. I can also tell you that they were all ears and were very interested in what we had to say.

Ouch, well hey for me life is pretty good right now and I will, it's just one of many goals I have set to accomplish. Sorry to hear my opinion doesn't matter to you and that's ok, I understand. There were plenty of others this past week willing to sit down and chat with me about everything Vipers even though I don't have one. It was great, I had alot of fun, got some seat time and alot of great photos. :)

I've never been a big fan of stripes on street cars and I think SRT should really limit them, especially since everyone is striping their cars now.

Mike, my friend :p I have been thinking of one special design and a color combo never done before! I'd propably need Arnar to help with it ;)
I think I'd go with solid then stripe later when I can select from more options.

Actually, I didn't say your opinion doesn't matter. It does matter. I said I'm not inclined to listen to someone who's never owned a Viper, thus has no frame of reference, but tells me it performs that much better and is worth X-amount of dollars more then the old one. Like I said. It's easy when you don't have a stake in the game.

Arnar is the man. Below is a very tasteful ps he did in that other thread...

The black center band allows you to see the curves on the gts hood while the stripe is outside. One one of the most beautiful cars ever imho.
I didn't care for the blue/white at voi that much.

For me the ultimate color combo would be a solid steel gray GTS with a clear coated drivers stripe of the carbon fiber hood and polished alloy wheels. Red interior if you want a little flash but black with the hand stitching would be classic.
