But, you know, yesterday while at the local hardware store, I stumbled across a new supply of stainless steel hex cap bolts. Since the ones on my engine (non-stress points) are oxidized (car originally from Boca) and just look kind of old, I thought I would take a shot at changing them like Baz did. Gives a nice clean look without going to chrome...already replaced the accelerator cable bracket ones with chrome but didn't like the look.

Thought, if nothing else, replace the top of the motor bolts - cable bracket, injector brackets and maybe some of the ones holding the black metal plates on the sides of the engine compartment.

Opinions...anyone else done this besides Baz?:dunno:

Thanks.

So, still trying to get an idea of muffler delete sound quality versus a cat-back system. I heard that you can get backfiring with muffler delete when letting off the gas....true?

i'd call it gurgling more than back fire, though you can get back fire but only if you try or goose it and then see a cop, most people like the gurgle

cat back will usually sound more refined, high (corsa) or muscle (borla, random tech), but to me, not worth the $ for my level of mods

I would do muffler delete if I clearly understood the sound versus a regular factory system with muffler and versus a cat-back system.

if the heat is not an issue (thus keeping stock cats) just do the muffler delete, 2 straight pipes or add one of these:

the top is magnaflow stainless, the bottom is cherry bomb aluminized steel. i did the magnaflow ($84+s&h), if i were doing it again i'd use the cherry bomb ($36+s&h).

with the cherry bomb and the right muffler shop, should be less than $125 installed.

if you don't like the sound and go catback (much more $$) you will be deleting the rear muffler anyway and will be out only $125 and could sell the xpipe **** delete (unbolt at last connection near diff) and sell for at least half, so real cost minimal, you get to have an additional sound and fun modding. keep your stock tips

my bet is you'll stop at the **** del and be more than satisfied

will try to post a sound clip, but won't be until next week, (i have hiflows too)

i think you will be satisfied with the **** delete

i'm assuming you already have k&n filters, if not do that now, you will notice a slight sound from them(a good sound) and will never hear it after the exhaust mod, enjoy each mod :2tu:

Thanks very much "E"....seeing as cat-back not in the budget for this year, doing the muffler delete (keeping muffler for originality sake, in case) sounds like a great idea.

Really looking forward to hearing the sound clip.:2tu:

If anyone is getting backfire from a Viper rear muffler delete after going through cats, resonators and 10 feet of pipe then they've got something else wrong with the system.

If you want loud the muffler delete will not satisfy you. If you want a little more sound and a nice rumble on the downshift the delete is perfect.

Okay, thanks for the advice. I am looking for a little bit louder from a sound standpoint and a little less backpressure from a performance standpoint. Aside from catback, not doable right now, I think the plan may be to do muffler delete and then, when I can, do hi-flow cats and that maybe it for exhaust.

Appreciate it.

You all convinced me, that should be next thing I do. Do kinda want to hear the sound clip from Eucharistos though. As with everything else on my car, will give Chuck a call to do the work.

Thanks again everyone!

i will try to post asap (though probably not until next week, i actually cannot do it, my son will have to), but remember i have hiflows, and they add sound and tone by themselves, so yours will sound a bit different.

That's great, thanks so much. At some point, want to add hi-flow cats, so the sound bite would be very helpful.:headbang:

So, aggrevating....I took video of my exhaust while running so you could hear how quiet (to me) the car is with stock exhaust. But, I have yet to figure out how to download this new HD video off the camera. As soon as I get that done, I will (hopefully) post it.

Will begin making exhaust mods soon.

Thanks.
