KLEG VIRUS - Take it Seriously!! Please don\'t transfer

The traffic on this virus is getting very heavy among board members , so please leave on this board, as many folks will never see it if it is transferred to off-topic. It starts with I have a new game and you are the first to see it. Don't open and delete, as it is not from any of your Viper friends.

Re: KLEG VIRUS - Take it Seriously!! Please don\'t transfer

I got hit with this worm this morning under the heading "help". The little bugger mutated and renamed it's self in my files 4 times before I caught it. Unfortunately my outlook express was set to "preview" so I was a goner before I even considered opening it. I would suggest that people running the preview option in outlook express, turn it off to avoid what happened to me.

Another variation is sending out with the subject "protect your computer from viruses forever" (or similiar); says you can run the attchment once and never have another virus infect your computer.

Re: KLEG VIRUS - Take it Seriously!! Please don\'t transfer

I posted about this, friday morning around 11:00am in the rt10 gts board. Mine was stating it was from viperjay and said "the next newest subject" In typical Pavlovian fashion, my post was promptly moved to off topic. I wonder how many folks would have been warned if that post had stayed in rt10 gts. Moderators, with all due respect, try to think like us instead of like yourselves. I'm sure your duties prompt you to check all boards whwn you come on, sometimes we only take a quick look, and we ALL go to rt10 gts. Just a suggestion, leave a virus warning up! Particularly if it is circulating through the board!

What would happen if you open it?

I just got an E-mail and it said, "A NEW GAME"! What's going on? Where did this come from?

I received one today also. Did not open it. Is there a fix that we can download for free, or do we have to buy it?

I use Norton Anti-Virus and it alerted me several times in the past week regarding these emails. It "inocculates" them and then I delete them. Works slick when viruses are known. I update the program weekly so should be pretty safe.

This is a pretty sneaky Virus. My ISP uses a McAfee prescreen (I pay a whopping $1/mo. for this nice feature) and I run Norton (auto updated). It is interesting to note that about half have been caught at the prescreen, and half by Norton.

The funniest combination of "from" and "to" so far on this Virus for me has been when I sent it to myself. Whoever has the virus must have my email address in their address book and their in-box or out-box.....

I've found the easiest way to avoid most Viruses..... Don't use Outlook or Outlook express as your email client. and not to have any addresses in your address book

. Safest thing to do is to use a third party email client, one that most people will not waste their time writing viruses for

There is a way to preview a message without using the preview pannel with OE 6. First turn off the preview pane. Click on VIEW, LAYOUT, and un-select "Show preview pane". OK with this gone you can single click on the suspicious E-mail. Hit the ALT and ENTER keys (same time) and select the details tab. Click the "Message Source" button and there you go. If you see a bunch of jumbled numbers and letters, be careful.

Good luck!

Please everybody, take this virus threat seriously, it is sweeping though the community and can cause a real mess if you are using Outlook or Outlook Express. I get the virus sent to me 6-10 times a day (one of the disadvantages of being in so many people address books)! Since the virus grabs e-mail addresses form an infected computers inbox, outbox, or address book, my address is showing up as the "sender" to many as well

PLEASE, scan your PC!

BUMP!!!! This is a SERIOUS matter. I know of many of our Viper brothers and sisters who have been knocked off the air by this thing recently. If you don't have the ultimate in Virus protection (and updated frequently on-line), you ARE going to get nailed, and likely take others down with you in spreading it. PROTECT YOURSELF!!!!....... and your "partners"!!!

Gee..... kinda like the courtesy of using condoms, right?

On the View menu, click Layout.
In the Preview Pane area, select the options you want and then click OK

or click on "Help" in outlook and type in the word preview

Kenric, you might want to take it easy on that guy. It's very likely he is NOT the one spreading the virus. If YOUR e-address happens to be in EITHER someone's inbox OR outbox who gets this virus, it may spew out more virus messages in YOUR name, along with all the others in his address book. I'm still getting a dozen virus loaded messages every day in the name of other Viper owners that I already know have clean boxes. This Klez thing is just plain nasty.

I also received 3 emails with attached files. Here are the details of one of them. It looks like it also came from [email protected]. It was titled from gtsdean but I've never sent him any emails.

Since then I received two more titled klez.worm. Deleted them.

Re: KLEG VIRUS - Take it Seriously!! Please don\'t transfer

I'm [email protected] and have just returned from a 2 week trip to find my OC filled with 102 messeges as a result of this virus. Don't shoot the "messenger " as this is just as big a surprise to me as any of you. My assistent is currently working on this and hopefully everyone else is too. The " expert virus " people say this virus is so new it has avoided many virus protector systems. Just think, this is the biggest "high" some little computer nerd will ever get in his or her life. Whatever.
