A driveway full of fun. I built the Cobra replica myself from bare frame to paint. It has a 347 stroker built by me. The only thing I didnt do was the machine work on the block. Its a Factory Five kit, and runs 11.50s on drag radials. The Viper is showroom stock and Ive only had it for a couple of months. They are both a blast to drive.

I love that Cobra, especially the paint. I have heard Factory Five has the best quality kits too. Why not the 427 stroker motor? Well done.:headbang:

I have always wondered who has the better kit between factory 5 and superformance. I plan on building one of these someday as well.

Advice: Check with your Motor Vehicles about registering it. Laws have changed and it could be a major hassle.

I built a kit Cobra back in the early 19xx's. Had it for 13 years, terrific autocross car, sold it to buy the Viper. That's why, to me, the Gen 1 Viper is a "refined" car.

Congrats!
Factory five is a great kit. I own two of them.
#1061 which is a 5.0 liter and #2283 Big Block 460 with IRS.
I love both cars, but sadly I've got the small block (black car) up for sale to make room for my Viper:(

Thanks for the compliments guys. I went with the 302 based stroker because I had a garage full of 302 parts and is saved me alot of money, if I had to do it over I would have had a garage sale and went with the 351 based 427 stroker. Brent I know you from FFCobra, in fact I think your big block car was over at Richard Obens when I was building my car, am I correct? As far as advise, Factory Five is the only kit I have ever put together and it is alomst as much fun building it as it is driving it. Very well engineered, almost no fabrication whatsoever. It is very rigid and light. My car weighs 2180 and some change (without me in it) and is very quick. For topend, give me the Viper anyday although I'm not really into topend, its cool to run the Viper up to 130-140 so easily and feel so stable. By the way my Cobra is Dodge Viper Blue.

Bluovlrcr,

Yep, My BB car Was at Richards, It was the second BB car produced by FFR. At the time no one else was putting Big blocks in FFR's and Richard had his hands full! I had him build it to the go-cart stage and I took it from there. My big block FFR is the only car I've ever owned that will lift the front wheels off the ground. The first time it did it, I thought the steering shaft had broke because the car was headed for a ditch and it wouldn't turn :crazy2:

I have been looking at the different kits available and I like the look of the FFR best so far. It seems to be the only real full support frame that is still lightweight. They seem insistent that you use mustang parts for the rest of the car. Is that what you guys have used? Do you have to use mustang components or does it just make it easier? Did you start with the "basics" kit or the "complete" kit?? Do you need to have much mechanical experience and knowledge or can this be a first build? I have been searching and searching for something that would be fun to drive and fun and easy to build/tinker with, this seems like a perfect fit and will look great next to the vipers! I need to wait a year before I can order a kit but I am getting excited.

J&r, Yeah the kit is dsigned to use Mustang components and the kit truly bolts together much like a large model car. I have been around cars and drag racing all my life but there are a number of owners that claim little or no mechanical experience. The Mustang market provides tons of aftermarket and speed equipment and as little as these cars weigh the drivetrain is virtualy bullit proof. I might add that there are several builders that have used other drivetrains mainly Chevy but I know of One V6 turbo buick and a guy on the FFCobra forum just got done with a 12 cylinder BMW, I think it was, build, so options are pretty much unlimited. If you really want to learn a ton about the FFR cars, check FFCobra.com, its a very good friendly forum as well as informative. Factory Five also has a website and they will send you an info package with a cool DVD that will really get your blood going! check it out the package is free.

Thanks for the info Chris. I ordered the info DVD from FFR. Do you think there would be enough room for a 6'4" person to fit comfortably in the roadster?? My first thought is to put a built 440 Mopar in it:headbang:

Not a fan of the Dax kit. The ladder style frame scares me a bit. Not to mention its on the wrong side of the pond. But there is some interesting info on that site, thanks

So Chris where are those front shots of your cars???

I'm 6' and fit comfortably. The newer cars have a dropped footbox which adds a little room.

As for construction: The FFR can be built using a donor car or almost completey with aftermarket parts.

My small block car was built going the donor route, and with the BB I pulled out all the stops and the only thing mustang is the steering shaft and the clutch and brake pedals. As a result, the cars look similar, but they are two totaly different animals.

Anyone can build an FFR, but as is the case with many things, some people are better in certain areas than others. Everyone gets to the point where there's something they get hung up on, and if you do, there is the forum Bluovlrcr mentioned, or there's a whole list of people who specialize in building FFR's that can take over.

True Shelby Autos is about 5 miles from me. anyone that came to VOI9 should have noticed the shop across from the dragstrip parking lot at the LVMS. Maybe I could get "the man" himself to help me:rolaugh: wouldn't that be cool! "yep, I built it in my garage with Carroll."

A couple of front shots, sorry it took so long. Hey can any of you Kansas City area guys point me in the direction of a good Viper tech? I have an interminten miss I cant find. I've done the usual plugs, wires, fuel filter and no change. The plugs I took out looked good but I changed them anyway. The miss comes and goes, sometimes I can take a drive of several miles with no problems and the next dirve it misses something terrible. Seems to be electrical to me, i.e. a plug not firing, maybe a coil pac? Its not showing any codes and I dont want to start throwing parts at it, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Chris
