Several friends just got back from New Orleans. It ain't the same no matter what the ads say. Not a nice place now. And humidity is the state bird, reptile, and motto for that state 10 months out of the year.

New Orleans has NEVER been a NICE place! lol
I was down there a few months ago and the Bourbon St area is like it always was. It is a hell of a fun town, you have a casino, and they probably would welcome us with open arms. I haven't ever driven there, so I have no idea what the driving areas around there are like.

As for weather, you just move it to little earlier or later in the year.

I would have to think all the water did some damage to the roads:dunno: I work with several people that were relocated to Las Vegas after katrina and they all say things are still a mess in New Orleans, but I have never been.

Vegas, Vegas, and more Vegas. I know, VCA's been there recently... but there's no shame in rotating through the best destinations more frequently. You can check off all the "requirements" boxes easily: dependable weather, local tracks, host hotel options, Valley of Fire and Hoover Dam cruises... also without question the best all-around playground for dinners, after-hours, etc.

BTW, I was in New Orleans for a conference last year. The city is clearly making its way back in the core (Conv. center to Bourbon St.). Very fun if you're a pedestrian; IMHO I can't picture it fitting too well with an automotive/driving event.

I will also be a huge "homer" and second the nomination of Monterey. Historic motorsports Mecca, simply gorgeous beaches, matchless cruising, and of course Laguna Seca. Nearby Santa Cruz for a virtual SoCal experience, too. Add in a drive over the Golden Gate to Infineon for road course and dragstrip, also wine country. Or cruise Hwy 1 down to Hearst Castle...

*edit* BTW, you can rent Hearst Castle for events. How cool would that be!

Rich I have to agree with you on Vegas or Monterey. Both would be excellent choices for all the reasons you mentioned.

Cell phone usage is international roaming. I was in Canada last weekend for less than 24 hours. I have AT&T. It is 79 cents per minute for calls. Text messages sent are 50 cents regardless of your text plan. Data is $13.xx per megabyte. I had data turned off and didn't send any text messages. Phone calls were very limited. I never felt so disconnected from the world.

Really. I thought you US guys had it better when you came up this way.

Guess not. Seems that you are paying the same as what we Canadians pay when we go south. :(

My cel bill looks just the same as that. And yes, you do feel very lost. :(

Like to say it again! Like I did before VO11!! South Florida!! two road courses, Three drag strips (two 1/8 one 1/4 miles) and a 10,533 ft long X 400 ft wide air strip that holds several standing mile events a year. all within a hour drive of each other, Not to mention south beach clubs and Key West cruises! enough said!!!!

ViperGTS I missed 1997 :( that's why i think it's time to do south florida, did I mention the weather! it's 85 and sunny clear skies as I type this!! all while most of the counrty has pretty crappy weather! And being fair. I'm all for south florida if in it's in the winter, If it was to be in the summer (too hot and humid) then I'm game for anywhere as long as we have a VOI:)

Just thinking about getting from Laguna Seca (Monterey) to Infineon Raceway and back in the same day would be rough. Without traffic that would be a 2-3 hour drive each way. To make it worth while you would almost need to split the venues for the event. Three days on the coast in the Monterey area and then a day's Road Rally to get to Infineon / Sonoma/ wine country for the remainder of the week. Can you imagine 500 plus Vipers flowing North spit between Highways 1, 280,101 and 880 all converging in wine country? It would be worth hiring a chase copter to film the migration. Just think what it would look like to see 100's of Vipers crossing the Golden Gate Bridge at the same time, That would be so cool!

Ken that is a great idea, having all the Vipers drive across the golden gate bridge, all the more reason to have it in California.

John, Congrats on getting your first Viper.. While it's not the Blue and White GTS that you were looking for, that Saphire ACR will certainly do! Now that you are no longer the President of Mopar Alley, you can give Maurice a break and run for Nor Cal VCA President.

About the VOI in Monterey, I talked with Maurice about it today and the biggest issue with getting it back here, whether it be Monterey or Sonoma, is finding a Hotel with a large enough Ballroom to host the thousand plus attendee's. They generally aren't built next door to race tracks....bummer!

Thanks Ken, It's not the 96 coupe, but I absolutely love my ACR. A Sapphire Blue coupe was my 2nd choice for a gen 2 coupe, so to get an ACR in Sapphire blue is awesome.

As for VOI, Maurice and I had that same conversation about Monterey, and while there is a challenge with a hotel, I think with some effort we can find a way to work that issue out.

Was not the greatest attendance Nashviille? Certainly not because of country music but it was the most centraly located. Think anyone from Seattle wants to go all the way to Miami and viceversa? How about Boston to Sandiego? Same problem. No matter what a central location will have the most drive in attendes. GTS Bruce

Since the last one was in SLC, which is considered by most to be out west though it is a 12 hour drive east of us and the previous one was held up north in Detroit, you are probably going to see the next one held in the south (Texas) or south east, (Virginia or Tennessee )or at least somewhere in around that area.

I just created a google map of all VOI locations (link below) and it looks a little east heavy to me. I still vote for Monterey or Sonoma, but if the concern is centrally located, then a state like Texas, Nebraska or Kansas makes the most sense.

It makes sense to mix central (higher attendance?) venues with coastal sites from year to year. The more I think of the wide variety of really cool motorsport/cruising opportunities in NorCal... well, I just feel really lucky to already live here!

Picturing a horde of Vipers on the GGate. Wow.

If I may, I'd like to add to the discussion.

I produce a charity event in Orlando, FL each year. I've been doing it for 10+ years, mostly by myself. We only have a few hundred attendees, but the basics are essentially the same.

Our first event was in NY and that one turned out okay as it was pretty small.
The plan was to move the event around the country (and world, which we did) so that more folks could attend.
In 2000 we went to Vegas. Holy crap was that expensive. Not only is it a ******** union town (no offense to the union guys), but $80 to turn on a light switch? If we get past that, there was the $1000+ we had to drop just to get permits and licenses to hold the small one-day event inside the Stardust.
That year it cost us over $7000 to put on the event.

After much discussion, Orlando became the location:
- TONS of hotels and ballrooms for the event. In every price range too.
- Attractions out the ying-yang for those who didn't want to come to our event, or just wanted to jack around for the day until the show that night.
- Beaches within 40 minutes.
- Non-union town.
- Great Chamber Of Commerce with awesome event staff.
- CHEAP airfare from almost every major city in the U.S.

Now it costs us about $2000-$2500/yr. to put on the event, and it's extremely well attended. You will NEVER be able to please everyone, but as long as you show you've thought things out, almost all of them understand.

I am NOT suggesting Orlando as a location for VOI-12.

I merely wanted to point out to folks (and the organizers?) that there's more to putting on event than having a kickazz track near a 4-star hotel.
Though, that is a huge plus for this event. :)

- Not every Viper owner is a 28 yr. old single male. Most of them have families, so the location needs to have something for the wife/husband/kids to do while we're all shredding tires.
- Track is required; the closer the better.
- Non-track/scenic drive route is required.
- LARGE hotel is required for the dinner(s). The nicer the better.
- Not every Viper owner is a kabillionaire. So there needs to be Super8-type hotels/motels nearby for guys on a stricter budget.
- Easy in/out. Many will come with just the car, but many will also come with trailers. Some will come with semi trailers. And a few will come with several semi trailers. Major highways nearby is a good thing.

I think Indy and Daytona are great options as long as you're not there the week before or during the big races, or bike week (unless you have a running Tomahawk)
Chicago could be cool too. I'd love to meet Abe Froman and visit Shermer High School. :D

Count me in for VOI-12, regardless of location.

Stupid question maybe, and I don't want to be divisive at all. But is the club large enough to hold both a VOI East and a VOI West?

Sadly even if it were, it would break up the club too much. Will kill some of the "family" feel the club has. :(
And they do kind of have that, the Zone Rendevous.

Another vote for Milwaukee -Chicago area with Road America as the track! I'm good friends with the President of R/A and I beleive he recently purchased a Viper! It really is scenic and Elkhart Lake has a world class resort on the lake 2 minutes from the track. Good airport access to either Chicago, Milwaukee or Green Bay for that matter. Price wise could be one of the least expensive VOI events ever.

Road America is a 1 hour drive from Milwaukee & Green Bay and only 2 hours from Chicago.

As far as tracks go. Would you rather have a road course or drag strip?

For a national event, I'd say the prerequisite is both. Seriously. Many venues to choose from that can satisfy that requirement.

If you have to settle for one, I agree: road course.
